Roy Jones Jr’s Saturday night opponent still undecided – Boxing News
After WBC light heavyweight David Kostecki was arrested last week, Roy Jones Jr’s Saturday night bout seems to be in jeopardy.
Jones was scheduled to face Kostecki this Saturday but now nothing appears to be certain. Either the bout will end up being cancelled or Kostecki will be replaced with another opponent. However, Kostecki’s promoters are still hoping to get a temporary release from jail.
In his recent press conference, Jones spoke about the upcoming bout and his undecided opponent. “I don’t care who they will put in front of me – I’m a professional fighter, this is what I do – I fight to win,” said Jones.
Jones currently stands with 55 wins, 8 losses and 40 knockouts in his portfolio. On the other hand, Kostecki stands with 39 wins, 1 loss and 28 knockouts to date. Kostecki is ranked number 4 in the WBC light heavyweight list. While Jones was talking about the fight in a press conference, Kostecki was spending in time in the cell instead of preparing for the fight. There are chances of Kostecki being replaced with Pawel Glazewski, number 8 WBC light heavyweight with 17 wins, 0 loss and 4 knockouts to date.
Roy has been making headlines recently. He was the man who stopped Artur Szpilka and Jameel McCline from engaging in a brawl at Warsaw’s Champions Sports Restaurant. Later on, Roy spoke about the situation. He revealed, “It was very close, you could tell that Szpilka wanted to provoke McCline, so I decided that there’s not enough people in this place to let those guys fight right now. Not waiting for their big time Saturday night in Lodz and I jumped right between them giving both guys my version of face-to-face.”
It should be noted here that Kostecki is sentenced to 2.5 years in prison. He was charged with running a prostitution ring. His legal team is trying to get a temporary three-day release for the fight. The court will declare the verdict just hours before Friday’s weight in of both the fighters, taking place in Lodz. If not Kostecki then Jones will have to settle down with Pawel Glazewski.
