Roy Nelson does swift work of Dave Herman and knocks him out in 51 seconds – UFC News
Roy Nelson, the massive UFC heavyweight pounder, silenced his critics by collecting an impressive knock out win over more experienced Dave Herman, in just 51 seconds of the three-round bout held on May 26, 2012.
With this win Roy has definitely proved his naysayers and specially UFC President Dana White that he still has what it takes to be a UFC heavyweight pounder and he does not need to be lean or skinny in order to grab a win.
Nelson, 35, is infamous for being a massive quite over-weighed belligerent who losses most of his bouts because of he being least agile. But this was not the case during his clash with Dave.
Roy, also known as ‘Big Country’, was entering in his career’s 24th bout and boasted 16 wins. The Las Vegas proud has nailed 10 of his opponents by sheer knockout and has lost just one bout in his career via knockout.
Moreover, Roy has collected five of his total wins by submission and remaining two by decision. As far as the stats and technicalities are concerned, Roy was a bit overshadowed by the young Indiana lad.
Dave, 27, was entering in his career’s 25th bout and emerged victorious in 21. He has nailed a huge 15 men by knockout, five by submission and just one by decision.
Despite the fact that he possessed more knockout wins, it was Roy who rose at the occasion and collected huge amount of praise from the crowd who got wild on witnessing a thunderous knockout jab.
The bout kicked off with odds 50-50 on both sides. Herman, also known as the ‘Pee-Wee’, possessed the height and the reach advantage which he used optimally in the initial seconds of the first round.
Dave connected substantial number of swift and somewhat lethal kicks to Roy’s body but the latter somehow penetrated the former’s defence. After that it was just Roy and his huge jab which he later on dubbed as ‘small rock’ as everybody in the MGM Grand
Garden Arena saw Dave falling on the octagon floor like dead wood.
The reason for Herman’s black out was Roy’s powerful fist that jolted the young lad’s mind. As soon as Dave touched the octagon’s floor, Roy moved in and unleashed a wave of jabs provoking the bout referee to intervene and halt the bout.
After a comeback knockout win, Nelson boasted, “My plan was to wrestle. My coaches had a different game plan, which was hit him in the face. Guess it worked. Clearly my hands have dynamite in them or small rock or whatever.”
With this win Roy has to some extent improved his resume as this is his second win in last five bouts. Dave, on the other hand, is in a bit trouble as this was his second consecutive loss in UFC after Stefan Struve.
