Roy Oswalt could sign a deal with Boston Red Sox – MLB News
The 2011 offseason has proved to be a really disappointing one for Roy Oswalt. The right handed starting pitcher missed most of the game in 2011 due to some family problems. Oswalt’s previous employer, Philadelphia Phillies didn’t renew his contract at the end of the season, which left Oswalt in a very difficult situation.
According to a source, Boston Red Sox is showing interest in signing a deal with the pitcher and the deal could be finalised in the next few days. Last season, the Red Sox were unable to live up to the expectation and they are now looking for another pitcher to power their pitching lineup. Oswalt and the Red Sox could prove to be a perfect match for each other.
With Spring Training starting in couple of weeks, Oswalt has very little time left to make the decision. If he misses out on this opportunity, he might regret his move later on. The source further added that although the two parties have been negotiations for some time now, there was no serious progress in any discussions.
Roy Oswalt will be looking to settle with whatever comes his way. Since he made his Major League Baseball debut in 2001, the guy has produced some magical performances. However, his inconsistency has halted his progress on several occasions. At the age of 34, Oswalt will be looking to perform consistently to post his best stats before he calls it a career.
Having wasted a golden opportunity to sign a deal with St. Louis Cardinals, Oswalt will not have to be content whatever offer he gets from the Red Sox. By securing a contract with Ben Cherington’s side, he will have an excellent chance to change the course of his career.
The Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington also does not want to acquire another before Spring Training. Having gone over their budget for the season, the Red Sox have limited funds for the starting pitcher option. If Oswalt fails to secure a contract with the Red Sox before Spring Training, he will have to wait for the trade to open again in second half of the season.
