Roy Oswalt motivated to prove his worth for Philadelphia Phillies
If there’s one thing Roy Oswalt will be looking for, it is perfection. He’s one of the best assets in the Philadelphia Phillies line-up and that is something he doesn’t need to be reminded of.
Nevertheless, Oswalt has a lot to desire and while many pitchers would be content with their accomplishments, Roy looks to do more when the regular league season commences. The maestro is currently working out in Clearwater, Florida and recently, made the
initiative to talk with the press.
Oswalt holds the record of achieving two 20 game-win season stints with the National League Central team, the Houston Astros. He even won the 2005 National League Championship Series Most Valuable Player award.
In a long list of seasonal votes for the Cy Young award, Oswalt has come out in the top five, five times in the National League. Furthermore, his 143 wins for the Astros falls short by one more victory to tie the tally with Joe Nierko, who heads the charts.
Even though there’s so much achieved, Oswalt feels there is more to do and maybe he will, given the upcoming challenge in the 2011 Major League Season.
"Sometimes you get with a team for nine or 10 years and you get in kind of a rut, I guess you could say", Oswalt said. "You come over here and you've got the guys that we have on our pitching staff, and you're trying to keep up".
Oswalt has carried criticism and scepticism on his shoulders for a while now. However, last season, he displayed one of his strongest outings with the Phillies. In 12 starts for the club, Roy converted seven wins and a loss. His Earning Runs average was
1.72.
"I was drafted in the 23rd round", Oswalt said. "There have been questions since then, so it's nothing new to me. Just keep going out there, throwing up numbers, and maybe they'll believe one day down the line".
Oswalt made his debut start for the year with the Phillies against the Baltimore Orioles at the Bright House Field in the Grapefruit League. He managed to pitch two innings in the encounter.
