who do think wouldve won in a fight between these two guys both in there prime? g-man is one of my personal all time favorites & i followed g-mans career as far back as the amatuers and i remember g-man beat roy jones back in da day! but jones was the guy that was pampered & got the opportunity to go to the olympics, jones got all the publicity & was known while only real fans knew about g-man & when they went pro its funny how jones avoided g-man,benn,eubanks,& few others.but i dont care what you fools say,i think g-man wouldve koed jones in the pros.because of a corrupt ref g-man ended up disabled.that fight shouldve been over in the first round,i counted 15 seconds while benn was down & than benn started rabbit hitting all night & the ref allowed that dirty tactic.if i had a chance i would lynch the ref! much respect for a fallen soldier gerald g-man mcclallen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRfR3iy20wA

  1. As much as I loved watching Gerald fight, and as explosive and dynamic as he was, this question really is a no-brainer. Roy wins easily.

I agree that McClellan was probably tough enough to take a lot of Jones' good punches, but if Roy ever really opened up on him, it'd be lights out.

But seeing as Roy and Gerald were good friends out of the ring, Roy probably wouldn't have gone for the kill, and coasted to an easy decision.

  2. jones would have been too fast for gerald, and mc clellan could not last the distance, as too many of his fights finished early.

jones would have had a slightly easier time in the fight than benn did.

  3. Well my opinion is amateur boxing is different than professional. I think Jones would have squeaked out a UD. That is in Jones' prime. Some how Jones could throw a combo that really didn't decapitate but made his opponent feel pain. Which made them back off and he could win rounds by only throwing 20 punches and landing only 9. I dont think Jones had the best skill in boxing but In my opinion Jones is the most physically gifted athlete ever, but anyhoo I think Jones would have squeaked out a decision.  As far as Jones ducking the Gman I don't know, there is a lot of politics in boxing, thats what gives this sport a bad name.

  4. I believe Gerald had the chin to withstand Roy's punches(if Roy hit him solid), and more than enough power to K.O. him. Furthermore, Gerald had a great straight right hand, and straight rights always gave Jones trouble, and the height and reach advantage. Gerald was a star in the making--good looking, exciting, and courageous. What happened to him was so tragic. Perhaps you can submit another question and tell us how he's doing if you know. Thank you for a great question!

  5. What happened in the amateurs don't mean jack $hit in the pros.Gman was the "Mike Tyson" of the middleweight division,a brutal, cruel, mean SOB.Most of his KO's were scored in the first 3 rounds "a la Tyson style",if the fight was extended pass 5 rounds against a decent boxer Gman would be in trouble.

The thing with being a bully like Gman and Tyson, they get frustrated when they can't score an early round KO.When the latter rounds roll around they don't have the experience or the stamina to survive,so they get their a$$ whopped, examples are Gman vs.Benn or Holyfield vs.Tyson 1.

Gman vs.Jones would have been a classic boxer vs. puncher match up,speed against power,in the end I'll say speed wins out.If Jones could survive the first 5 rounds (which i see him doing),he would defeat the Gman on a decision or late round stoppage.

Like Jimmy Cliff once said "The harder they come the harder they fall".Gman always came hard and he certainly took one helluva fall....tragic really, but that's boxing.
