Royal Aberdeen to host 2014 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open
The European Tour has announced that the Scottish Open will take place at Royal Aberdeen in 2014. This will be the first time that Royal Aberdeen will host such a prestigious tournament.
The Royal Aberdeen has its own beautiful history. It is the sixth oldest golf course in the world and it was built in 1780.
The prestigious Scottish Open will be the eighth tournament since 1972 to be hosted by Royal Aberdeen. The course has previously hosted the Senior Open Championship and Walker Cup match in 2011.
The 2013 Scottish Open will return to Castle Stuart Golf Links and then move on to its new home in 2014. The prize funds have been increased from 2.5 million pounds to 3 million pounds, with the winner taking home with himself 500,000 pounds.
It would be the third successive year for Castle Stuart to hold this historical tournament. The event will run from July 11 to 14.
Ronnie MacAskill, Royal Aberdeen Golf Club Secretary, said, “We are delighted to have been invited by the European Tour to host the 2014 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open”.
“Since its earliest beginnings in 1780, the club has fostered the game of golf in the area and, over the past century, staged many national and international events at Balgownie,” he continued.
The tournament will be held from July 10-13 at the Classic Balgownie Links, in the following year, 2014.
People at the Royal Aberdeen are extremely happy about this announcement, as it will be an honour for them to host such a prestigious and historical tournament.
Mark Parsinen, Managing Partner of Castle Stuart Golf Links, added, “We are delighted that the European Tour will once again return to Castle Stuart for next years’ Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and look forward to presenting another top class
event”.
The Scottish Open is a regular feature of the European Tour since its introduction in 1972. The stroke play format is followed in this event.
Generally, the Scottish Open is played a week before the Open Championship and it serves as good practice for the major, as that too is played on the links course.
