Royal Ascot 2011 – Aidan O’Brien finishes as Top Trainer and Ryan Moore wins Top Jockey
The competitive nature of the Royal Ascot and entries from all the over world on the 300th meet of the Royal Ascot makes life difficult for jockeys and trainers, who dream to shine on this prestigious, and, most watched horse racing festival.
Enthralling competitions, including older rivalries, which got reignited by the hype created, and, of course the mind blowing build up towards the Royal Ascot, to settle the score at the Royal finale once and for all.
The most anticipated show down was between Canford Cliffs, and, the champion six-year old bay mare, Goldikova.
Canford Cliff is owned by Richard Hannon, and ridden by his son-in-law, Richard Hughes.
The importance to do well in the Royal Ascot is of massive significance and participation of top trainers and entries of top horses to claim titles with legendary jockeys riding them is proof of the prime significance of this illustrious event.
Trainers such as, Sir Henry Cecil, the comeback king, have proven over and over again the fame and glory that follows after wrapping up races in the Ascot.
Richard Hannon and Hughes were also successful at this year’s Ascot but could not win the crown for the top jockey and trainer. The title went to jockey Ryan Moore, who fought hard on the final day, and, landed two wins for trainer, Aidan O’ Brien, overhauling
the duo of Hannon and Hughes slightly, to be crowned as the top jockey and trainer.
Aidan O’ Brien edged past trainer, Richard Hannon, who had eight starts this year, won three, four runner-up positions, and, once finished third.
On the other hand, trainer Aidan O’Brien, topped it with four wins, twice finished second and once third in all his starts.
The competition among jockeys was also stiff and came down to the wire at the Royal Ascot. Richard Hughes had a brilliant start this year with three consecutive wins and looked the top contender to win the top jockey title, as he had also topped the jockey
board for the longest period.
With Ryan Moore’s last day heroics by landing two wins, he managed to draw it with Hughes but stuck his neck out just enough to win the jockey title. He did that by managing one less second place finish than Hughes, which proved just enough to place Hughes
second, for the second year running.
