Royal Caribbean Dress Code?

We are going on our cruise in Dec. Majesty of the Sea is the ship. I was wondering the dress code? Anything will be helpful. How short for shorts? what about tops can it be tank tops? What type of bathing suit? (1 piece or 2) What to wear during the day? What to wear in the evening? For formal night what type of dress? Short or Long? Straps or strapless? Can it be velvet? Thanks

Hi,

Dress code is always casual.  There is no real requirement when your on your cruise.  Shorts can be short, you can wear tank tops and bikini or one piece suit is fine.

Just wear what you would normally wear and you'll be fine.  For Formal night wear anything you feel elegant in, there is no hard and fast rule, but it can't be casual.  Velvet would be just fine.

Camera. Sunscreen. Swimsuit. Okay, now that we've got the basics out of the way, here are a few must-have cruise items that'll help make your vacation more comfortable, enjoyable and memorable.

On the first day...

For the first day of your cruise, pack a small carry-on bag with your travel documents, a change of clothes, bathing suit, workout clothes, and any medications you may need. That way you don't have to wait for your checked bags to arrive in your stateroom.

Onboard attire...

Shorts, t-shirts, slacks, trousers, casual skirts, blouses and sundresses are all perfect during the day, whether indoors or out.

For lounging by the pool, pack two bathing suits (an extra suit in case the other is wet) and a pair of casual shoes (e.g., flip-flops, sandals, sneakers). You'll also need some casual shorts and a couple of t-shirts or a cover-up for getting to and from the pool areas.

If you're planning to visit our onboard fitness center, be sure to bring extra shorts, t-shirts and socks that you won't mind working out in - plus a pair of tennis or running shoes/sneakers.



For fun... There are four very important types of books you'll want to consider packing:

Travel guides - to help you explore new destinations

Poolside pleasures - nothing beats a great read in the sun

Journal - keep an account of your adventure for sharing and reminiscing

Address book - send your friends a postcard to make them jealous

Binoculars are another often forgotten, yet indispensable travel item. Be sure to pack a pair for magnified excitement onboard and onshore.

Save space...

Be sure to leave some room in your luggage for all those souvenirs and mementos. Some space-saving ideas include:

Bring shirts and pants/skirts that mix and match, turning three outfits into five or six.

Wear your heaviest shoes during embarkation and disembarkation so you don't have to pack them.

Pack small items inside larger ones (like jewelry inside shoes) for efficiency and safe-keeping.

Bring an additional empty bag for those acquired extras.



For formal nights you'll need cocktail dresses for women, suits and ties - or tuxedos - for men. And for the smart casual nights bring dresses or pantsuit for women, jackets for men.

Remember, shorts, T-shirts, and bathing suits are not considered appropriate attire in the dining rooms at dinner. Casual dress dining is available nightly in the Windjammer Cafe. And be aware you'll also need smart casual attire for some of our specialty restaurants.

We also offer tuxedo rentals for formal dinners and special occasions.

Onshore attire...

You'll need comfortable walking shoes, as well as a hat and sunscreen for protection from the sun.

If you are cruising to Northern Europe or Alaska, remember that nights on deck can be cool. Bring sweaters, jackets and long pants. And if you'll be touring any museums, cathedrals or churches, it's always wise to dress conservatively. You may also want to bring a raincoat, hiking shoes and a travel umbrella. And don't forget your swimsuit - it may be cool outside but it's always warm in our Solarium.

There really is no dress code...During the day I would wear some shorts and a tank top over my bathing suit...for evenings on the ship (casino, shows, etc)...whatever you fell comfortable in..I usually wear capris or jeans and a nice top....On formal night you will see people in  little cocktail dresses all the way up to $10,000 eveing gowns...It is your choice..I wore a little red cocktail dress..nothing really fancy.....They will not allow tank tops in the dining room during dinner though....My first cruise I stressed about what to wear..you dont need too...Just make sure you look nice and HAVE FUN!!!

The dress code on most ships is the same.

During the day- shorts or jeans if its going to be colder. Tanks and t-shirts are more than acceptable. If you're headed to the pool or the beach, a cover-up usually works best.

Dinner- Nice pants and dress top for formal dining room. A cocktail dress works best for formal/Captains night. You can also wear a dressy pants suit if that works better. For men, a dress shirt and slacks works. They can also wear a jacket.

You can basically wear whatever you are most comfortable in.

I have been on many RC ships among my many cruises.  Here's what to expect.

The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00PM. So take swim wear, shorts, sandals, beach shoes, your snorkel equipment if you have it, sun glasses and sun screen, lotions, a cap or big hat for the sun, a book if you are a reader, your music player, sneakers and clothes to workout in if you like to use the gym, your camera, and other personal toiletries.  Swim wear can be bikini to 2 pieces, there are no rules on shorts and tank tops are OK too.  The only rule is they want you covered, a "T" shirt or wrap, when you are headed to the pool/hot tubs in swim wear.  And, no swim wear at any time in the dining room or the buffet (Swim wear is OK in the buffet if its covered and you have shoes/flip flops OK on your feet.

After 6:00 PM they request that you wear "sports casual" attire. That's attire that you would expect a person to wear in a business office, shirt with a collar, slacks, skirt, blouse, etc. You can still wear shorts and swim wear in the pools and spas but not in public areas like dining rooms and restaurants, show rooms, bars, casino, etc.

Most 7-day cruises have two formal nights when you can wear your best stuff and get pictures taken, and maybe meet the ship’s Captain. The formal nights are REQUESTED not required attire. But most people do dress up in a tux for men and a long dress (any color) for women. Some men just wear a suit and tie and some women wear a nice dress but not a gown; long or short is OK. You will not be denied access to the dining room or anything else if you choose not to dress up. (we usually take off the formal stuff after dinner and pictures anyway).

Some other tips for cruising:

Its best to pack using soft-sided luggage because with space limited in your cabin it fits under the beds better if its not hard sided luggage. Take a small carry-on bag for the last night of the cruise. On the last evening you will be required to put your luggage outside your cabin by about 2:00 AM so that they can start taking it down to the lower deck for offloading the next morning. So you will need a small bag for your toiletries and and your clothes that you sleep in.

-Join the cruise club so that the cruise line will send you their specials and so that you can get discounts on future cruises with them. The discount will typically be $50 to $100 per person. If you will be celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary, or birthday during the cruise, be sure to tell them, they will do special stuff for that.

- Cruise lines charge a lot for the photos they take so take your own photos around the ship when you get the chance, especially on the formal nights. Ask other passengers to take photos for you, they generally are very willing.

-Review the listing of tours offered on your cruise and decide whether you want to pay for a tour or go on your own. On most Caribbean islands you can get a taxi or tour in port for much less than the cruise ship tours. HOWEVER, the one big advantage of going on ship sponsored tours is THE SHIP WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU if your ship sponsored tour is late getting back to the ship. If you will be in a port for 12 to 16 hours you are probably safe to go on your own for most anything. But if you are only there for six to eight hours you may want to stay close to the ship or go on the ship tours.

- Take a 6-pack of water and/or soft drinks in your carry on for your cabin.

- take a cup or mug with a lid for cold drinks when you are around the pool, most plastic glasses on cruise ships are small.

- take a small bottle of hand sanitizer; the ship usually has a big dispenser at the entrance of eating places, but carry your own and use it.

- take an extension cord for charging your camera, music player and for anything else you need to plug in.  The cabin will have a plug but not in the best places.

I've been on the Majesty - it's a great little ship.

Dress code for the day - casual.  Shorts, swimming suits, you do need to wear a cover-up in the buffet though, tank tops are all fine.  VERY casual.  

They have 2 formal nights on the 7 night cruises, and 1 formal night on the 3-4 night cruises.  Formal night is long dresses, or cocktail dresses - suit or sports jacket for the men.  

You do not have to dress up - but it's preferred.  If you are eating in the buffet you don't need to dress for dinner.  

A velvet dress would be beautiful.  They will have formal portraits taken that night also - so you want to look your best if you plan on buying any pictures.
