Royal Challengers Bangalore grab clinical win against Delhi Daredevils - Cricket News Roundup – Part 1 – April 08, 2012
On April 07, in the fifth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal Challengers Bangalore left Delhi Daredevils in ruins after beating them by 20 runs, at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
After being put into bat, the home side smashed a reasonable tally of 157 runs on the board, they faltered in the batting department as they should have posted more runs, however, the bowlers lived up to their expectations as they restricted Delhi on 137 runs to grab a clinical victory.
AB de Villiers, who singlehandedly batted his team to dominance, was named as the Player of the Match because had he not belted an unbeaten innings of 64 runs, Bangalore would have crumbled on a lower total.
In the second match of the day in the IPL, defending champions Chennai Super Kings finally registered their first win in the tournament by humiliating hosts Deccan Chargers at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
Deccan fell 74 runs short of the required tally after being hit for 193 runs by Chennai.
Chennai, who were looking for redemption, batted with a solid plan and even after losing a couple of wickets on their way, they still kept the pace in their batting which ultimately helped them post a teasing total on the board.
RA Jadeja was the star of the show as he hammered a lethal innings of 48 runs and then wrecked h**l on his opponents by grabbing five wickets in four overs and consequently took home the Player of the Match award.
English captain, Andrew Strauss, has praised his side’s emphatic win over Sri Lanka in the second Test at P Sara Oval, Colombo and revealed that even the poor run of his side before this win never made him question the abilities of his players or his captaincy.
“I never had any doubts about whether this was the time for me to go. I'm very determined and committed to seeing us improve as a side,” said Strauss.
England won the game by eight wickets and retained their number-one spot in Test cricket after levelling the series.
