Royal Challengers Bangalore looking to retain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 for IPL5 – Cricket News Update
The Indian Premier League outfit, Royal Challengers Bangalore, is hoping to retain the West Indian explosive left-hander, Chris Gayle, for the next edition of the lucrative competition.
The deal to retain him will be complicated, as Gayle had signed for only one-year, which means he will be put up for auction, where any buyer can bid and attain his services.
The former West Indies captain was signed by the franchise as a replacement for injured Dirk Nannes, where according to the rules of the tournament, the Challengers cannot keep the player and will now face stiff competition from other franchises as well.
However, Sidhartha Mallya, the director of Bangalore outfit, is working out on a deal with the IPL authorities where they are hoping to keep the player, rather than letting him get on the auction list.
"There are ways to keep Chris [Gayle]. We are obviously working on it and looking at every possible opportunity,” he said optimistically.
Gayle was brought in during bleak circumstances. Ironically, no one bid for the left- hander last year, as concerns over his international commitments and injuries left the player unwanted by any IPL outfit.
With the 31-year-old not picked up for the first two One-Day international matches of the home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DP-Nannes-c1396.
This though did not go well with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 cricket board, which stated that it had left the former skipper out of the first two One-Dayers as he was nursing an injury sustained during the World Cup 2011.
Gayle, on the other hand, felt bewildered by his exclusion from the national side and quickly contracted to the Challengers, where he lit up the IPL with some dazzling performances.
He remained the highest scorer in the tournament with two centuries, a whopping 44 sixes and an astonishing strike rate of 183.
Mallya also spoke of the impact caused by Gayle, which helped the supporters forget the departure of previous favorites, Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229.
He said regarding the departed players, “http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726] de Villiers, it was easy for the fans to get over that
and they have taken to the new side very well."
