Royal Challengers Bangalore v Pune Warriors – 2nd Innings Report
For the 35th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on 29 April, 2011, the Royal Challengers Bangalore went up against the out of form Pune Warriors at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
After restricting Bangalore to a total of 181 runs in their home ground, it was now up to the Pune batsmen to avoid their fifth defeat in a row in this season.
Openers Jesse Ryder and Tim Paine were called upon by the Warriors to take charge. The 182-run target meant that the openers needed to conserve wickets while keeping the required run-rate within sight.
Unfortunately, Paine seemed completely out of touch as he struggled to middle the ball. His predicament soon came to an end when he was caught by Daniel Vettori at short fine leg off Sreenath Aravinda. Paine only managed to score eight runs off 17 deliveries.
Manish Pandey joined Ryder in the centre. The duo stabilized the inning somewhat with Ryder being the main scorer.
However, in the 12th Ryder had to go back after being caught by Mohammad Kaif off Syed Mohammad. Ryder’s 51-run knock had taken the Pune Warriors to a total of 79 runs.
Skipper Yuvraj Singh then took it upon himself to try and drive his side towards the required total. He tried to forge a partnership with Pandey but Daniel Vettori foiled their plans. Pandey sent an easy catch towards Saurabh Tiwary, who made no mistake.
Next man in was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robin-Uthappa-c2356, together him and the skipper added thirty runs in the total tally before the Royal Challenger struck once again in the 17th over.
The Pune skipper was the man to fall, Syed Mohammad caught Yuvraj off Zaheer Khan and sent the skipper along with all of Pune’s hopes, back to the pavilion.
With Yuvraj gone, Pune was lifeless and the show was at an end with none remaining to shoulder the responsibility and steer the ship through.
Pune could only muster 155 runs, falling 26 runs short of the required target. Vettori was the most economic bowler from Bangalore, taking a wicket and conceding 23 runs in four overs with an economy rate of 5.75.
This was a welcome win for the downtrodden Bangalore side.
