Royal Challengers Bangalore wins as Chris Gayle hammers Kolkata Knight Riders: IPL-4 News
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) having to chase a steep target of 172 runs, after their bowlers suffered thrashing at the hands of the Kolkata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 Riders (KKR), the RCB needed a special performance from their batsmen if they desired to retain any hope of snatching a win.
As an old cliché goes, ‘Cometh the hour, cometh the man,’ Bangalore had the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, much to the benefit of the Royal Challengers.
Gayle demonstrated just what his national side are missing with a sensational 102 runs off 55 deliveries. The century included 10 astounding fours while seven deliveries found their way over the rope after connecting with Gayle’s bat for six.
Gayle along with Sri Lankan superstar, Tillakaratne Dilshan, showed their intent from the very first over as Yusuf Pathan found himself beaten for two boundaries in the first over.
Dilshan added another boundary in the next over before Gayle got into the act in the fourth over, as he hit his first boundary of the match. In fact the term ‘first of many’ would not be too out of place in this situation.
Gautham Gambir the Kolkata Knight Rider skipper used seven different bowlers, but none seemed to be able to stem the aggression in Gayle’s and Dilshan batting. In the eight over Shakib Al Hasan found himself on the receiving end of two massive sixes as the opening wicket partnership now stood at 74 runs.
The anxiety in the Knight Riders’ camp grew with every passing delivery, as the two batsmen were steadily taking the game away from them. Gayle reached his half-century with another explosive shot for six in the ninth over. The bad news for the Knight Riders was that Gayle had only reached the half-way point of his knock.
What Gautham Gambir’s Knight Riders needed was a wicket and Lakshmipathy Balaji was the man who gave it to them when he had Dilshan walking back to the pavilion after the first delivery of the 13th over for just 38 runs. Dilshan was beaten all ends up as the ball hit off the stump.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990 for four on the first delivery of the 19th over that resulted in two things.
Firstly it brought up Gayle’s century in what was later recognised as a Man of the Match worthy performance, and secondly it won the match for the Royal Challengers Bangalore with 11 deliveries to spare.
