The 3-year-old gelding, Royal Currier, registered his third win of the season as the speedster set a new record in the $250,000 Gallant Bob Stakes on 24 September at Parx Racing.
Conditioned by Patricia Farro for MAT Stables, Royal Currier was sent off at odds of nearly 19 to 1 in a field of seven 3-year-old sprinters for the six furlong dash.
Under jockey Stewart Elliott, Royal Currier loved the lightning quick dirt track as he broke the record of Indian Way, which was 1 minute and 7.60 seconds, set in 2009, as he overshadowed it with his own, 1 minute and 7.51 seconds.
The son of Red Bullet, out of Top of the League by Lite the Fuse, Royal Currier broke out well from the gate, and entering the midway of the backstretch, he assumed the leader’s position.
The pacey colt led at every call, as he set fractions of flashy 21.59 seconds for the quarter mile marker and he clocked in four furlongs in 43.43 seconds.
The Frankie Pennington ridden 3-year-old Poseidon’s War was sent off as the 3 to 2 favourite. He was never in a position to threaten Royal Currier, as he broke away on the turn and led by 4 lengths at mid stretch.
He held sway Poseidon’s War and went on his own blistering pace, fully extended when he hit the wire, 3 ¾ lengths over Poseidon’s War.
The Luis Saez ridden colt Indiano was just behind the runner-up as he finished half a length behind the Robert Reid Jr. trained colt.
Florida based 3-year-old gelding, Royal Currier, hasn’t stuck to one place, and has been moving about with two starts at Aqueduct, three at Monmouth Park, two at Gulfstream Park, two at Parx Racing and a lone start at Saratoga's turf.
In total, there have been 10 starts in all for Royal Currier this season as he improved his stats with three wins, two second place finishes and a single third place finish.
In 16 career starts, he has gone on to win 7 times with a lifetime earnings of $395,850.
