Royal Delta and to Honor and Serve getting ready for a showdown at the Spa
Trainer Bill Mott will fancy his chances at those races, in which he will be represented by Royal Delta and To Honor and Serve at Saratoga.
While Royal Delta is preparing for the Grade 1 Personal Ensign Stakes on 26thAugust, 2012, To Honor and Serve will be sent to the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes, which will be held on 1st September, 2012.
Mott also has Al Khali and Newsdad gearing up for the Grade 1 Sword Dancer Stakes, which will be hosted on 18th August, 2012.
Royal Delta, daughter of Empire Maker, is currently on a hat-trick, as she secured two consecutive victories in the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis Handicap and then went on to win the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap.
Now, it is her chance to really step it up and land another big one.
The Besilu Stables owned runner completed a five-length work-out on 13thAugust, 2012, which she successfully completed in 1 minute and 0.66 seconds.
Regarding her recent training sessions, the trainer said:
"I think 1:01 and change would have been fine, but she went along pretty well. She went off the right way and finished up nice, too. We're two weeks away, so a decent work was in order."
To Honor and Serve has an immense amount of work to do since his last race, as he finished fourth in the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap, over 1 1/8 miles.
The son of Bernardini, out of mare Pilfer, holds an overall record of 7-1-3 in 14 starts and earnings worth $1,328,840. He has some impressive victories to his name including the Grade 1 Cigar Mile Handicap and the Grade 3 Westchester Stakes.
On 13th August, 2012, Mott took the four-year-old on a five-furlong work-out which he completed in 1 minute and 01.60 seconds at Saratoga. He seems to be in better form and Mott is hoping he will be at the top of his game in
the next start.
Referring to the colt, Mott said:
"He's starting to act better; more like himself. With the weather being cooler, he's eating better and acting better."
