Royal Delta and To Honor and Serve worked at Churchill Downs for the Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott
Bill Mott trained duo 3-year-old filly Royal Delta and 3-year-old colt To Honor and Serve worked at Churchill Downs ahead of their Breeders’ Cup races on 23 October.
The daughter of Empire Maker, out of Delta Princess by A.P. Indy, Royal Delta is pointed toward the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic on 4 November, 2011, Churchill Downs and To Honor and Serve is preparing for a run in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic
on 5 November also at Churchill Downs.
Coming off a second place finish in the Grade 1 Beldame Stakes at Belmont Park on 1 October, 2011, Royal Delta went about five furlongs in 1 minute and 2 3/5 seconds was the first one to work.
Her run was recorded in fractions, and in the end galloped out six furlongs in 1 minute and 15 1/5 seconds and further went seven eighths in 1 minute and 29 4/5 seconds.
The Palides Investments N V owned filly’s workout was recorded as the 23rd fastest out of 47 runs on the same distance.
It was then the turn of To Honor and Serve to turn in the 14th fastest run out of 47 at the distance of five furlongs, which he covered in 1 minute and 2 seconds. Further the 3-year-old colt galloped out 1 minute and 15 3/5 seconds for six furlongs
and then moved six eighth in 1 minute and 31 seconds.
Royal Delta turned in a 3rd place performance in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga over the distance of 1 1/8 miles on 23 July, and in between American Oaks and the Beldame Stakes, Royals Delta won the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes
at Saratoga on 20 August.
On the other, the son of Bernardini, out of Pilfer by Deputy Minister, To Honor and Serve is coming off a win in the Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing on 24 September, 2011, under jockey John Velazquez at about 1 1/8 miles on dirt.
The 3-year-old colt downed Slevin and Gautier who finished second and third, respectively, with the winning time of 1 minute and 48.31 seconds.
