Royal Delta sizzles in her second work at Belmont Park since the Dubai World Cup
Besilu Stables owned 4-year-old filly, Royal Delta, closed out her brilliant sophomore season with a win in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic – which ultimately brought the Eclipse Award for the champion 3-year-old filly has failed to visit the winner’s circle on two occasions this season.
Bill Mott trained filly made a long trip to Dubai, to participate in the at the Meydan in the Group 1, $10 million Dubai World Cup on 31 March, 2012, but she was never in the race, finishing 9th to winner, Monterosso.
Prior to the Dubai World Cup, the Empire Maker filly kicked off her 2012 campaign with a run in the Grade 3 Sabin Stakes at Gulfstream Park on 25 February, 2012.
In the 1 1/16 mile long race, Royal Delta looked a bit rusty, and couldn’t manage Awesome Maria in the stretch, who downed the filly in second and covered the distance in 1 minute and 42.82 seconds.
Though, on 20 May, 2012, Royal Delta came out on the track for the second time since her defeat in the Dubai World Cup to post her second work.
Over Belmont Park’s fast main track, Royal Delta sizzled after covering four furlongs in a bullet 47 2/5 seconds, becoming the fastest among 57 over the same distance.
"She could run in a month," Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott noted. "She'll most likely go to the (Grade 2) Fleur de Lis (on June 16) at Churchill Downs, or she could go to the (Grade 1) Vanity the same day at Hollywood Park. She's doing very well. She had a nice work this morning, she had a nice work last week, and it looks like she hasn't lost much from the trip."
Bill Mott’s string of horses is right now parked at Belmont Park, and Royal Delta appears to be the only one out of many in the barn to have travel in her future plans.
While nothing has come on the surface regarding her next start, but it is evident that it is somewhere around the corner, because out of A. P. Indy mare Delta Princess, Royal Delta has to come back to winning ways to make an impact this season as well.
