Royal Delta will be looking to win the Ladies’ Classic before she goes through the Keeneland November sale
The Palides Investments N V’s 3-year-old filly Royal Delta, will face nine challengers in the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic on 4 November, 2011, at Churchill Downs and her prime rival on the track that day will be the 2 to 1 morning line
favourite, Plum Pretty.
The Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott’s Royal Delta is the second choice favourite for the race with the odds of 5 to 2.
The daughter of 2003 Grade 1 Belmont Stakes winner Empire maker is out of Delta Princess by A.P. Indy, Royal Delta is exiting from a second place finish behind the fantastic filly Havre de Grace in the Grade 1 Beldame Stakes at Belmont Park.
Bill Mott used the Beldame Stakes as a prep race for Royal Delta, and the veteran trainer was happy with the result, because it’s not every day a filly comes and out muscles Havre de Grace for the finishing line, but finishing before her a couple of lengths
race is a good result.
Havre de Grace decided to challenge the boys yet again in the Grade 1, $5million Breeders’ Cup Classic. She will miss the Ladies’ Classic which she was cross entered for earlier. Another top contender for the Ladies’ Classic would have been the champion
Blind Luck who had her Breeders’ Cup chances shattered when she finished unplaced in the Grade 1 Ladies Secret Stakes at Santa Anita 1 October.
With these two missing the Ladies’ Classic lineup, Royal Delta has a pretty good chance in the race, and prior to a spirited performance in the Beldame, she won the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga.
Besides the Beldame Stake and Coaching Club Oaks at Saratoga where Royal Delta finished third, she hasn’t lost a single race in the year 2011. Her winning stats for the current season are 3 wins out of 6 starts.
Four days after the Breeders’ Cup Classic, Royal Delta is scheduled for the Keeneland November breeding stock auction in Lexington.
Bill Mott, who will be attending the auction, hopes that whoever buys her would be willing to leave the filly with him.
