Royal Diamond to shine in the Seamus & Rosemary McGrath Memorial Saval Beg Stakes
Leopardstown will host the Seamus & Rosemary McGrath Memorial Saval Beg Stakes (Listed Race) over a mile and six furlongs on Friday, 8th June. The €30,875 prize money will get contested by eight four-year and older runners.
One of the most reliable entries for the race today is Royal Diamond, King’s Best’s six-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Irresistible Jewel. He has been active four times during the new season and has maintained a certain bench mark that has not driven down the third position.
The only race that he captured was at Leopardstown.
His welcoming race of the season was the New Year’s Day Maiden Hurdle on 1st January at Fakenham over two miles. He ended third as the race was won by San Telm and qualifying as the runner up was the 2/1 favourite of the race, All Annalena.
He met the similar fate in the second outing of the season. Royal Diamond finished right after the runner up, Discovery Bay, in the Irish News Hitting The Target Handicap on 23rd March at Dundalk over a mile and four furlongs.
The six-year-old bay gelding made the most out of the third attempt as he won the Leopardstown Leap On Facebook Handicap on 15th April at Leopardstown over a mile and six furlongs.
Riding with Johnny Murtagh, Royal Diamond led the runner up, Rising Wind, by 4 ¾ lengths. The 7/2 favourite of the race, Run With The Wind, settled third on the track of sixteen.
He failed to keep the consistency intact in his performance as he qualified as the runner up in the Paddy Power Handicap on 27th May at Curragh over a mile and four furlongs. However, he did make the decisive moments troublesome for the winner, Midnight Soprano, as the bay gelding himself was closing in at the very slight neck’s difference.
The line-up is competitive no doubt with nearly all the entries having tried their luck at Leopardstown. There are those too who will be racing their seasonal debuts today and can become a pleasant surprise after such a long rest.
