I'm thinking of going on RC's Majesty of the Seas to Cococay and Nassau. How is Cococay? How is the ship? This will be my first cruise. Any suggestions and opinions are helpful. Thanks!

  1. Well I personally have never been on this ship, or to cococay or nassau...i was supposed to go there, but the hurricane took us to cozumel instead....

I have answered many other questions about cruises so now i will give you those answers...some of the answers are about other cruises/cruise lines, but i will just let you know about those also:

    1-

To start off, Disney cruise line is one of the best. I can basically promise you that you will have an awesome time. I took the land and sea package, so 4 days in disney world and then 3 days on board the disney wonder...i actually didn't go to the bahamas because of hurricane frances...we were supposed to go to nassau and then castaway cay, but couldn't because of the hurricane...so we ended up going to cozumel, mexico instead...the port that we left from was destroyed, so we had to go to another one...let me tell you, it was such an adventure not knowing what was going to happen...anyway, i assume that you are going ton the disney wonder...i will tell you as much as i remember

    The ship itself-

This ship is absoutely beautiful...right when you walk in the lobby you are greeted by the most friendly staff...you see an incredible statue of ariel...all over the ship there are hidden mickeys and other disney characters, i think your kids will enjoy trying to find them.

    Food-

the buffet on this ship is open 24 hours and has a wide selection of food...there is 24 hour free room service, just a tip is reccomended...there is rotating dining, i wont spoil all of the resturants, but one that is amazing is animators palate...all that can say is when you walk in the walls are black and white, and it turns into color...

    Pools-

There are 3 pools, mickey pools(kid pool), goofy pool(family pool) and then an adult only pool...

    Service-

the people who work on this ship are so friendly and helpful...they can answer any question you may have

    Activites-

there are so many things for all ages to do on this ship...

    -excellent kid programs

    -night clubs

    -pool side games

This is just some of the great stuff about this ship, if you would like to more or have any questions, feel free to send me a message, ill be happy to help you!! = ]

    2-

I will try to answer every question that I kno...

    Food-

It is all included, except for a specialty restaurant which would be about $20 per person. It is fantastic food, always something to choose from, such a great variety

    Activities-

Most activites are included...things that arent would be gambeling(obviously), bingo, and a couple other things. All activites onbaord are so much fun, and I reccomend doing as many as humanly possibly

    Alchohol-

It is not included. And yes, you will have to buy your own drinks...on the majority of the ships, you can also buy a bottle of just about anything..you will be amazing on how how much alchohol they have onboard. Depending on the cruiseline, you are allowed to bring your own alcohol, but you have to check with ur cruiseline.

    Smoking-

there may be a special section on board the ship that he can smoke, but he can outside, unless it is banned, which it shouldnt be

    Bags-

Normally they wont check your bags, but you will have to put it through a security belt...then if they see anything, they may check it

    Extras-

Well all cruise lines have a different policy on tipping, u will have to check with them...

    Hope this helps! = ]

    3-

My top reasons for taking a disney cruise-

Well I have been on over 30 cruises in my lifetime...I'll go through every cruise line that I have been on, and explain it to you:

Carnival isn't such a great idea for your family because of the young one...carnival is more of a party ship...there is a lot more drinking, and believe it or not, people overboard...i personally don't think that it is one of the best cruise lines for families, but if you want to put your little sibling in the child center, then you can "party" more...Here are some links to help you:

    http://www.vacationstogo.com/cruise_line...

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/crui...

    http://www.carnival.com/

Now I have been on Royal Carribean, and I think that this is perfect for you and the rest of your family...there are many activites onboard, such as ice skating, rock walls, amazing shows, great kids/ teen programs, exctiting games, great port of call, and great rates...I have been on over 15 rccl cruises, and this cruise line is my favorite:

    http://www.vacationstogo.com/cruise_line...

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/crui...

    http://www.royalcaribbean.com/home.do;js...

Celebrity Cruises are my second favorite cruise line...it is exactly like rccl except they dont have the ice skating and rock walls...the shows are fantastic...the food incredible, the activites for kids of all ages, adults also...the pools and pool side games are amazing...it is a little bit cheaper than rccl, but has similar itineraries, just from some different ports:

    http://www.vacationstogo.com/cruise_line...

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/crui...

    http://www.celebritycruises.com/home.do;...

Now Disney cruises are also perfect for your family, the only downside is that it is very expensive...there are so many different varieties of cruises such as a land and sea, 3 and 4 night cruises, 7 night carribean, and several mexican riviera cruises..the activites onbaord are endless...jump in the pool, catch a game in the oceanears lab, play bingo, watch the fantastic night shows, eat and endledd amount of food...and especially travel the several different places around the world, including Disney's prviate island, castaway cay:

    Seasickness-

Well I have been on many cruises, and from experience the patch is the worst possible way to get rid of your seasickness...sure it works, but the side effects are even worse than what you are trying to get rid of...you will definitely not enjoy your cruise, the side affects are severe in most cases which include major thurst, stomach pains, migranes, and nausea....What i reccomend is the pill for severe sickness, and the wrist bands for mild sickness..here are some links that you can find the wrist bands:

    http://www.cvs.com/cvsapp/cvs/gateway/se...

    And the pills:

I went on the Disney Wonder when I was 13 years old in 2006...it was the land and sea package....it was the end of august when we went so it was hurricane season....the ship is amazing...it was my 3rd cruise and so far, my favorite...there is so much to do for any age...people think that Disney is too babyish for teens but no way!!! it was so much fun....there are tons of great shows, amazing food...both kid friendly and grownup friendly...the cabins are bigger than a normal size of a cabin that u would find on another cruise....the staff are so helpful and friendly you feel like you have ur own personal butler....the pools are great...there are 3: kids with a water slide(mickey), family pool(goofy) and then an adult pool...the bars aren't expensive as you may think...and you get free icecream and drinks 24/7...about the shows....throughout ur cruise there will be a number of shows....after dinner each night, there will be a show in the theatre...one night they will have a show about one of the disney movies...the one that i saw was hercules...it was AMAZING! the show was like you were watching a broadway play...the music the cast everything was so real...you forget that u r on a ship....then they will have a comic and then maybe another performance for the night shows...as for the bars and lounges, there are also shows in them....one day there is a talent show, which is fun...there is usually a band that is onboard and they will perform every night....there is what's called late night fun which is like a club for teens....there is dancing and music and food...also on the ship is a midnight buffet, actually at 11, where you can get food, obviously....and there are some amazing ice scupltures...i strongly reccomend it....one night there is a small mexican buffet with excellent food, also reccomend it.....as for the staterooms, there is an animal made out of a towel every night along with chocolates on ur pillow....its amazing how they make the animals out of towels....if you ever see ur maid, i would ask them how they make the animals... thats what i did, and she showed me how to make a monkey..it was really cool!!! the rooms are always very clean and fresh....ok, now for nassau, i assume u mean the private island castaway cay....we never ended up going there...remember how i told u that it was hurricane season? well of course we got stuck it in....the hurricane was headed right for castaway cay, so we couldn't go there...instead we went to cosumel mexico...it was a lot of fun there!!! and the port that we were supposed to dock into was damaged by the hurricane, i think it was frances, we had to find another port to dock into...since the one that we were going to go to was full, we had to wait until there was room for us to dock....it was ft lauderdale....we had to wait 3 days at sea until the port had an empty spot for us....so we ended up getting 3 free days at sea, and $300 per cabin to spend onboard because they felt bad for us....so this was my absolute favorite cruise ever and i will never forget it....during spring break of last year, april 2007 i went on Celebrity Century and we went to Key West and the Cayman Islands...this ship was amazing, we left from miami, fl...during spring break of next year- March- April 2008 we are going on Royal Carribean's Explorer of the Seas...i have never been on rccl before, but im really excited...we're leaving from bayonne, nj...around an hour from where i live, and we're going to the virgin islands, haiti, and the domincan republic....hope this helps! = ]

    8-

Well I have been on over 30 cruises and I can tell you from experience, cruises are the best way to travel...basically everything is included and you don't have to pay for food every meal, and you get to see the world....

I have never been on norwegian cruises, and heard many different things about it..I heard that the free style dinner is a pain, and then others say it was great, but i guess it depends on your specific cruise...

Here are some links to help you:

    ncl.com

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/crui...

    http://vacationstogo.com/cruise_lines/no...

I have been on several Royal Carribean cruises and I this is my favorite cruise line...the ships have a lot more to do then most others, and is around the same price...there are rockwalls, ice skating rinks, inline skating, and much more than make Royal Carribean an excellent cruie lines, and my personal favorite:

    rccl.com

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/crui...

    http://vacationstogo.com/cruise_lines/ro...

I have been on a couple carnival cruises before and I strongly dislike this line...its not as much adventureous as the others...there is a lot more of the late night parting and even more; drinking...carnival has the most over board passengers than any other cruiseline...i also think that it doesn't go to as many exciting places as the others..its a bit more expensive than the others and doesnt offer as much...but if you want a party ship, then carnival is perfect for you:

    carnivalcruiseline.com

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/crui...

    http://vacationstogo.com/cruise_lines/ca...

My opinion is the princess cruises are way over priced...again they dont offer as much, and cost way too much...the food and service is just good to average and i think that it should be much more because you may a lot of money...

    http://www.princess.com/

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/crui...

    http://vacationstogo.com/cruise_lines/pr...

I would also reccomend celebrity cruise line because it gives amazing service and food...although there is a rock wall or skating rink onboard, there is still so much to do on the ship...they treat you as guests not customers...the pool side games, the spectacular shows as night, and the places you visit are amazing...its not expenisve at all, you get better service than you pay for:

    celebritycruiseline.com

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/crui...

    http://vacationstogo.com/cruise_lines/ce...

Now to book all of these cruises, I reccomend vacationstogo.com ...it such an organized site, and the rates are great...also when you book ur cruise at one price, and then see on another site that the rates have goine down...it will give you the money that you would save if you booked now...

Also if you would like to read reviews about basically anything and everything, check out cruisecritic.com ...it is very helpful

I hope that I helped you, and if you have any further questions, feel free to send me a message = ]

    9-

My first cruise was on the Celebrity Horizon, which isn't in operation anymore...it was a 7 day to Bermuda out of Manhattan...I don't remember much, but what I do remember is getting seasick from the remnanse of a hurricane...i also remember in Bermuda, going to the caves which were amazing...it was beautiful and awesome...strongly reccomned going to Bermuda on a cruise

My second cruise was a free one...i dont remember which ship it was, although it was 40 years old...my family and i did a timeshare and got this 2 day cruise to the Bahamas...it was out of ft lauderdale...all that i remember is that the beaches in nassau were absolutely gorgeous

My third cruise was in 2004 onboard the Disney Wonder...we spent 4 days at disney world, and then were supposed to have a 3 day cruise to the private island, Castaway Cay...it was out of port canaveral...this ship was amazing...the restaurants were so well thought out...there was animators palate where the walls changed as you would eat...the food was fantastic, and the activites were great...all over the ship was decorated with disney characters, and there is a beautiful statue of ariel in the lobby...it is a very kid friendly ship, but is amazing because its also very teen and adult friendly as well...I absolutely loved this cruise...except for one thing that scared me, my family, and everyone on the boat...hurricane frances was in our path of castaway cay...everyone was freaking out, not knowing what was going to happen...what happened was we had to go to Cozumel, Mexico(I dont mean to make it sound bad) instead of the private island...nobody got seasick, thankfully and everyone was relieved that we didn't get caught in the storm...so we ended up being on the ship was 2 extra days...each cabin was awarded $300 onboard credit because the cruiseline felt bad...but one more bad thing...hurricane frances had destroyed our port...so we had anextra day at sea before the daptain decided to port us in port everglades...this was definetly an adventure, but was a great cruise!!

My fourth and most recent cruise was on the Celebrity Century...it was a 5 day out of miami, florida...this was in april of 2007...we were going to key west and grand cayman...this ship was gorgeous...every single part of it was beautifully decorated...the food was 5 stars and the staff helpful, knwoing exactly what you wanted...the pools were well taken care of, and lots of pool side activites...we just went shopping in key west, but didn't find much other than a small flee market...we had an excursion in grand cayman...we would go on a 20 person boat which would take us out to coral reef...we had 3 stops...the first, we swam with stingrays which were amazingly tame, yet were wild...the second and third, we saw coral and lots of fish down in the bottom of the ocean...it was called Captain Bryan's and I strongly reccomend it or something similar...This was my favorite cruise so far...

My fifth cruise which is booked at the end of march is on Royal Carribean's Explorer of the Seas...it is out of Bayonne, New Jersey and is going to Labadee, Haiti, Casa de Campo, Dominican Republic, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, and San Juan, Puerto Rico...I am very excited about this cruise, there is a promanade which is longer than a football field...it has food, shopping, entertainment, etc...

-->Now on all of these cruises, my family and I spent around $100...all we bought is souveniers, no drinks, or anything like that...

~~> Now if you have never been on a cruise, I strongly reccomend it...the service, food, entertainment, ports of call are all amazing...cruises are the best way to see the world...jus about everything is included, so why not?

    10-

Well for the first part of your question..where to find a cruise for you....i have always found vacationstogo.com the most helpful site...so i did a search for what you are looking for:

There actually were no cruises from Baltimore to Bermuda in January....but I did a search for any month...the cruise closest to your birthday would be either this November 11, or April 26, 2008...they are both 5 day cruises on Royal Carribean's Grandeur of the Seas....Here is the itenerary for both dates:

    DAY DATE PORT ARRIVE DEPART

    Sun Nov 11 Baltimore 5:00pm

    Mon Nov 12 AT SEA

Tue Nov 13 King's Wharf, Bermuda 9:00am (ARRIVE)

Wed Nov 14 King's Wharf, Bermuda 4:00pm (DEPART)

    Thu Nov 15 AT SEA

    Fri Nov 16 Baltimore 8:00am

    ----->AND <-----

    DAY DATE PORT ARRIVE DEPART

    Sat Apr 26 Baltimore 5:00pm

    Sun Apr 27 AT SEA

Mon Apr 28 King's Wharf, Bermuda 9:00am (ARRIVE)

Tue Apr 29 King's Wharf, Bermuda 4:00pm (DEPART)

    Wed Apr 30 AT SEA

    Thu May 1 Baltimore 8:00am

Now the prices would be different for the both cruises....the November 11th cruise would be $719 for the cheapest inside, $1,059 for the cheapest oceanview, $1,689 for the cheapest balcony, and $1,739 for the cheapest suite

For the April 26, 2008 cruise it would be $699 for the cheapest inside, $849 for the cheapest oceanview, $1,149 for the cheapest balcony, and $1,249 for the cheapest suite.

Now keep in mind that since you are cruising alone, it may cost more...also add the port fees if you are driving....and the April cruise is cheaper than the Novemeber cruise, so also keep that in mind when booking your cruise

Here is the link for the Novemeber cruise:

    http://vacationstogo.com/fastdeal.cfm?de...

    and the April cruise:

    http://vacationstogo.com/fastdeal.cfm?de...

    and then the entire search:

    http://vacationstogo.com/ticker.cfm...

And if you want to start from scratch:

type in vacationstogo.com and click on Find a Bargain

Now for the second half of your question; you don'y know what to expect...

Well on a cruise, one thing you must have is patience...when boarding and embarking your cruise you may have to wait some time...

I also hope you like to eat because cruises are filled with fantastics dishes, and basically all you can eat...Now with formal gatherings....unless you eat dinner at the buffet, there will be a formal night on your 5 day cruise...this means a coat and tie, nothing more than that...now like i said if you don't want to be bugged at all with a formal dinner then i would eat all your meals at the buffet....

Cruises are the best way to relax...there are pools, launges, spas, gyms, wonderful rooms, breathtaking views, and of course the beautiful ports of call, which in your case would be King's Wharf, Bermuda...now I have been to this port of call, although I don't remember it fondly....What I do remember are the amazing caves that they have for you to see....you can take tours all throughout this port of call, which you will most definetely enjoy...for more on this port of call, check this out:

    http://vacationstogo.com/cruiseports/vie...

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newpor...

    http://www.bermudaportreviews.com/kingsw...

    Ok, now personal experiences:

I have been on 4 cruises(5th is booked for March), Bermuda, Bahamas, Cozumel, Key West, and Grand Cayman....I wish that I could go on a cruise every single month....anybody who has ever been on a cruise would say the excat same thing as me...there is nothing about a cruise that you could possilbe complain about.....the food, activites, views, staterooms, ports of call, shows and entertainment are all top notch...there will be so much fun things to do, you will forget that you are on a ship.....

Now about your ship- Royal Carribean's Grandeur of the Seas

I have never been on this ship...but I have heard remarkable things about it....here is a link to reviews and other information about the ship:

Now my most memorable experience ever on a cruise ship would be in 2004 when I went on the Disney Wonder...my family and I stayed in Disney World for 4 days and then we were going to take a cruise for 3 days to Disney's private island Castaway Cay out of Port Canaveral, FL....when we got on the ship everything was specatacular...this was our 3rd cruise and so far out favorite...We had a day at sea before we were supposed to arrive at the private island....towerds the beginning of that first day at sea, we were informed that Hurricane Frances was headed straight for Castaway Cay...everyone on board was freaking out, not knowing what was going to happen...the captain was honest with us, and told us that if he couldn't find us another port to go to, that we would have to go home....but then later that day he had informed us that Cozumel had a spot open for us to dock....so instead of us going to Castaway Cay, we went to Cozumel, Meixco....each cabin was given $300 to spend onboard the ship because they felt bad that we couldn't go to their private island....no out second problem that we encountered was what port to come back into Florida....the port that we had left out of was totally destroyed....they had to find another port....the open available one was Ft. Lauderdale, 3 hours away from Port Canaveral....but we couldnt go there until there was an opening for us...so we ended up having 2 extra days at sea and $300 per cabin to spend onboard....we then had to take a 3 hour bus ride to where the destoryed port once was....most people onboard had missed their flights, including us, so the cruise line took care of it....this was my favorite cruise overall, because it was like we didn't know what was going to happen next....

When choosing a cruise line, there are a number of things that are to consider...you said that you want to go to the carribean with young people...for you, i reccomend Royal Carribean cruise line....but if you would like to know about every cruise line that I have been on, I will list every one:

Carnival is more of a party ship...there is a lot more drinking and people drunk, and even overboard...this cruise line has the most people overboard over any other cruise line...the food is just average, the entertainment ok, and the ports of call not the best that I have ever seen...it is much more packed than other cruiseline....it holds the same amount as others, but isn't as much to do onbaord...it is good for singles, but not really with kids because there are areas that should be for adults only, such as the nude areas, but kids can just walk right in...not such a great thing in my opinion...now price wise it is a bit overpriced for service that isn't so great...meaning you pay for things you don't get...here are some links that will help you:

    http://www.vacationstogo.com/cruise_line...

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/crui...

    http://www.carnival.com/

Now my favorite cruise line is Royal Carribean...I have been on over 15 RCCL cruises...there is so much to do onboard; rockwalls, ice skating, amazing shows, inline skating, and entertainment during the day...now the rates are great bcause they are cheaper than most other cruise lines and offer so much more...the food on this cruise line is like a fantasy, it is so incredibly delicious...there is so much to choose from and I am shocked that you don't have to pay extra for it....here are some links:

Celebrity Cruises are my second favorite cruise line...it is exactly like rccl except they dont have the ice skating and rock walls...the shows are fantastic...the food incredible, the activites for kids of all ages, adults also...the pools and pool side games are amazing...it is a little bit cheaper than rccl, but has similar itineraries, just from some different ports:

Now Disney cruises are perfect for any age, the only downside is that it is very expensive...there are so many different varieties of cruises such as a land and sea, 3 and 4 night cruises, 7 night carribean, and several mexican riviera cruises..the activites onboard are endless...jump in the pool, catch a game in the oceanears lab, play bingo, watch the fantastic night shows, eat and endless amount of food...and especially travel to several different places around the world, including Disney's prviate island, castaway cay:

  2. We are going in Dec for our honeymoon.  They show new pics of the Majesty of the Sea on Cruise Critic.com.  It looks great I am excited about going.

  3. Be ready to eat, dance, drink, enjoy the weather, eat some more, drink, dance, no work at all not even making up the bed.  Take cash for tipping.  You will be using a ship's card for everything you buy on the ship.  Then at the end of the cruise you pay your bill.  You are paying for things you buy in the store on the ship, the bar, the extra stuff.  Plan your side trips now before you go on the ship.  The side trips is when you are in port.  All side trips and its expenses are not included in your cruise price.  Finally, do you have a US passport?  If you do not have one, apply now.  The Department of State is backup to their eyeballs in paperwork.

  4. I have been on the Majesty.  It's a great little ship.  One of the smaller ones in the fleet.

Cococay is Royal's private island.  There is plenty to do there- swim, snorkel - beautiful beach.

  5. I like the website cruisecritic.com. they have great reviews.    have a great cruise.

  6. i have never been on that boat personallly(been on, navigator, explorer, voyager)  they are nice ships, i belive your ship is one of the newer ones. 2003 +

all RC ships are usually around the same layout, just one or two things different. Anyway, you will have a great time. RC is very good, and you wont be disapointed.

While i have only sailed with carinval other RC, i love RC compared to carinval.

The most important thing to do before anycruise is relax and have fun.  It doesnt help if you get on the ship angery.  If you have travel problems. Leave them at the port and enjoy your self.

thats the best thing anyone can tell you. Dont be mad,,,, relax, enjoy yourself... Meet new people if thats what you like. Enjoy the windjammer if you like food, gym/spa(my favorite).

I personally always set aside one day toward the night time usually on the first day just to walk all around the ship and sun set go outside and look at the sky...Enjoy yourself... explore... and really have a wonderful time.

Again remember, have fun, relax, and enjoy.

  7. I highly recommend that you book the Majesty for your first cruise, as it was my first cruise.  It was a short weekend, but it was a perfect amount of time for a first time cruiser.  The ship is gorgeous and has since been redone from the time I was there.  Both ports are fun.  I wish I could say I was going again!  Good luck with your travel plans!

  8. I've done 13 cruises w/ Royal Caribbean, my 1st was on the Majesty of the Seas. It's INCREDIBLE! Coco cay is really pretty & warm. Read your cruise compass every night. If u like the cruise join crown & anchor, u get good stuff for being a repeat cruiser.
