  1. The Royal family of the UK cannot marry Catholics without renouncing their right to the throne. If an heir to the throne is under 25 he needs the monarch's permission to marry and technically if the proposed spouse is not "approved" by the monarch then that person will renounce their right to the throne.

There is no bar to a royal family member marrying someone who is not Caucasian.

  2. Unless you're Prince Charles of Wales, you can't marry someone who's been divorced or isn't white. Not saying there's anything wrong with Camilla Parker Bowles, besides the fact that I think she's the one who caused Princess Diana to die in one way or another, but I think those are the rules. They have to be white, and I don't think they can be homosexual, either. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm not royal, so I wouldn't know, but I think I heard something on MSNBC about it.

  3. By Royals, I presume you are referring to the British royal family?  The 1701 Act of Settlement decrees that one cannot be Catholic or married to a Catholic and remain in the line of succession. This happened to Prince Michael of Kent, a cousin of Queen Eliz. II, when he married Mariana.  She was Catholic, so he renounced his place in the succession (admittedly, a bit down the line) to marry her.  His son recently did the same.  Lord Nicholas Windsor, son of the Duke of Kent, converted to Catholicism in 2001 and actually became the first British royal to be married at the Vatican.

It doesn't forbid them from marrying a Catholic.  It just says you can't be in the line of succession if you do.  Your choice :-).

There are no race requirements, nor are there any rules that they have to be royal. Lady Diana Spencer was technically a commoner, since she wasn't royalty. The Queen Mother was also an aristocrat, yet a commoner, and of course Sarah and Sophie were both commoners. And, of course, Camilla is also a commoner.

There are no rules, per se, except that the marriage has to be approved by the Queen. These days, I suspect she's happy if they just stay happily married, regardless of WHO they marry.

  4. No-one too distantly related, otherwise they'd risk straying outside the shallow end of the gene pool.

  5. I think they still apply but people are more lenient these days.  In the 40's King Edward VIII (of England ) abdicated his throne in order to marry an American divorcee.  It was unheard of back then.

  6. Royals in England can only marry someone with ties to the English aristocracy and are preferably a member of the Church of England and it is illegal to marry a Roman Catholic. In order to gain the approval of his family and their advisers, any potential bride was expected to have a royal or aristocratic background, be a virgin, as well as be Protestant.
