  1. I recommend Royal Signals electrician - why?  Because when you come out and hopefully you will have got a City and Guilds cert by then, you can work pretty well anywhere you like, even here in London.

A mate of mine, an electrician by trade, uprooted himself from here in London a few years back and moved to Wales.  He is the only electrician where he lives within about 500 square miles - he does every farm for miles around - the blessed milking machines are always breaking down, so too farm equipment, you name it - plenty of dosh to be had - call out £60 - no worries the taxman can pay that via claw-back thing.

  2. joiner on civvy st earns £220 a day

  3. Think longer term, what would you like to do when you come out?

What qualifications (civilian recognised) would you be taking when you are in and how relevant would they be in civilian life?

Lastly - Scalybacks (Signals) are less likely to be in the front line in conflicts.

    Ex Royal Corp of Signals.
