Royce Simmons of St. Helens mesmerised by Wigan Warriors’ spell
St. Helens’ coach, Royce Simmons believes that Wigan Warriors have sprung back to form, which is apparent with their recent massive 44-0 win against the Catalan Dragons in DW Stadium, on Sunday, September 25, 2011.
Wigans’ huge victory over Dragons in the eliminator play-off on Sunday has convinced Saints that they are in for a tight clash on Saturday. Prior to this, Wigans were defeated 18-26 by the Saints in their inaugural play-offs, which had led to their second
chance in store against the Dragons.
Their commendable performance against the Saints has brought the defending champions back in competition. After having won the clash against Dragons, the Warriors will combat against Saints, in hopes of bagging a place for the Grand Final berth.
Wigans had managed to break down Catalans’ defence after 24 minutes into the match and after that the French resistance was seen falling apart until the end of the clash.
All seven tries from Wigans remained unanswered by Dragons and Pat Richards was applauded for booting eight goals out of total nine attempts. With this brilliance achieved, the player has crossed 2,000-point mark for his team to be recognised as the fourth
member of his team to have reached this benchmark for his franchise.
Other players of Wigans, who added to their much talked about victory at the final eliminator included, George Carmont, Josh Charnley, Harrison Hansen, Brett Finch, Ryan Hoffman, Sam Tomkins and Liam Farrell.
Only five minutes away from the wrap-up of the match, Hansen, who was appearing for his 200th game, scored a try, which further stretched Wigans’ leads against the Dragons.
While talking about the opponents’ strengths, Dragon’s coach stated, “Their defence was outstanding. They were very aggressive and, to hold a great attacking side to zero, they were very good.”
Maguire’s pack was brilliant in their defence against the Dragons, which is apparent from the fact that that they did not leave room for even the slightest opportunity for the Dragons to materialise.
Despite the home side’s unanswered scores, their coach reckons that their side had the potential which has so far not been reached. According to him, his franchise has the ability to perform even better.
Warrington Wolves after winning the inaugural play-off earned the right of selecting their future opponents, which according to their captain, Adrian Morley, was not an easy decision to make. Morley stated, “It was not an easy decision by any means. Leeds
are a side with lots of threats everywhere. It's going to be tough.”
Wigans were in 18-0 lead at the half-time, which had stretched along the length of the game to bring themselves back in the game.
