Royce White’s future with Houston Rockets remains uncertain: NBA News
Kevin McHale was caught off guard recently when asked about the status of Royce White with the Houston Rockets.
"Good question," McHale said, taking an extended pause to give an impression that this issue has been the farthest away from his mind. "I don't know. Royce has kind of been away from us."
Royce White, the overall 16th draft pick this season, has been battling anxiety disorder issues which has kept him away from the court. The talented forward who is afraid to travel by plane has not been around much and
has not played any significant part in the Rockets' campaign this season.
White has been very vocal on social media on the other hand. He had earlier communicated his frustration about the Rockets’ unwillingness to be accommodating to his mental condition via twitter and last week he tweeted that Houston
are yet to figure out a mental health protocol that will lay the rules and allow him to return to action.
"Should I QUIT playing (because of) a (hashtag) MentalHealth protocol isn't in place?" White tweeted. "OR should we PUT 1 in place."
To be honest, McHale must have a lot of other things on his mind. He was away for a month from his team as he was mourning the loss of his 23-year old daughter Sasha. The workload will have definitely piled up and with so much
on his plate, White’s issue might be the last thing he would want to think about.
"He hasn't been around," McHale added. "I haven't seen him. As crazy as it sounds, you're just kind of going with the guys who are there."
And the Rockets have been thriving lately. Jeremy Lin and James Harden have combined their efforts to turn the Rockets into one of the most formidable attacking units of the league. Omer Asik, Greg Smith and Marcus Morris have
been doing well on the front court and the result is that the Rockets have one of the highest points per game averages in NBA.
Yes, Houston can use the talents of the star of last year's NCAA tournament, but given that they are 16-12 at the moment, have won 5 in a row and their team chemistry seems balanced, why indulge in the trouble.
When asked whether White will ever return to the side Kevin simply said.
"I hope so."
