Question:

Rubber bands on braces question?

i got braces in the beginning of last December and i got rubber bands to wear on them yesterday. i only have to wear one rubber band on the right side from my top last molar to my bottom canine tooth. I've heard that wearing the rubber bands as much as your supposed to instead of taking them out a lot can make a big difference in when you get your braces off. so i was wondering, how much of a difference will it make? like weeks, or months? and if anybody has any experiences with getting their braces off faster because they wore their rubber bands or people that got them off slower because they didn't please tell me :)

i'm going to try and wear the rubber bands as much as possible (like i'm supposed to) but they really hurt, so i need something to motivate me.

  1. I can tell you FOR SURE............how fast you get your braces off depends greatly on how much you wear that rubber band.   If you want your naked teeth back,  wear that rubber band 24/7 !!     It is correcting the bite on that side of your mouth,  and the orthodontist will keep you wearing that until it has been there long enough to fix it.    I've seen people who really slacked off on the rubber band part,  and they had their braces over a year longer than they could  have !!     If you wear it all the time,  in a couple days  it won't even be sore anymore.      Try to think of it this way,   every week you wear that rubber band you are subtracting maybe MONTHS off your final date.    Usually,  people who wear them 24/7 complete that level of treatment in a visit or 2 !

Your timing is in your hands more than the dentist's hands right now......he can't make things go faster now,  but YOU can.    Be a trouper........where those pesky bands,  and get your naked teeth back faster !!
