Rubber necking on motorways?

Question

why do people slow down and look at smash ups on the motor ways when they are passing on the other side of the mways

does it go back to the days of hanging in london when people travelled miles to see it happen

It generally affects those who pay more attention to everyone elses driving business instead of their own. Common symptoms include: The need too slow down a gawk at some one elses tragedy, swerving lanes as they take their eyes off the road to look, slamming of the brakes as they nearly, or sometimes hit, the vehicle in front of them and causing another accident to totally s***w up a stretch of roads flow.

Curiosity. And once you have sat in traffic for half an hour because of idiot rubberneckers, it's like hey might as well take a look myself.

Just curiosity I suppose, the trouble is they then go on to cause further accidents....but yes, I suppose some people want to see blood and gore....unless of course they were actually called upon to see blood and gore.

Yes, its bad. Some people do it so they can phone in the radios and tell them, some are just plain nosey and quite rude actually. Theres someone that could be dying and they are watching. I completely agree with you.

This is without question one of the most frustrating things about driving as often the queue is greater on the side without the accident with idiots slowing to look.

It is morbid curiosity they may see a dead body or some other horror to give them an interest in life. Trust me accidents are terrible and there is nothing interesting to see so take the other view if the police are there dealing with that they are not behind you so put the pedal to the metal for a few moments much more fun!

Suppose it is just curiosity but people should be made aware of the problems and holdups they can cause by this curiosity,Motorway driving is hard enough,a second or two lapse of concentration can cause another pileup.

i call them sickos they are they make me angery all the time . well my job is to go out to road traffic accidents to clean them up and you get the rubber neckers going past with there mobile phones takeing pictures or videos it just makes me mad even the police  hate them and you can even get a fine for it aswell . what makes me mad is there is some one dead on the road or seriuse injured and you get these sickos going passed videoing it and even takeing picktures i just hope one day that when they have a rta that some one goes passed and give them some of there own medison
