Ruben Amaro, Jr. hopeful of bounce back by Michael Young-MLB Update
General Manager for Philadelphia Phillies, Ruben Amaro, Jr. is optimistic that the infielder, Michael Young will rebound after being unimpressive during the 2012 season while playing for the Texas Rangers.
The Phillies acquired Young from the Rangers through a trade deal, which sent two of their relievers to the latter. The agreement also included that a part of the salary of Young will be paid by the Rangers.
It is something that has made the infielder for Philadelphia a quite inexpensive.
The Phillies could visit the free agent market in order to fill the spot of a regular third baseman in the team. Their GM has cited the mediocrity of free agents this year as the reason why he preferred using trades as the way to address issues with the
roster.
Inclusion of Young is an attempt from his part to respond to a requirement for the time being, while he his planning for long-term solution.
Ruben realises that the addition of Young has risks and that the decision may turn out to be wrong down the line.
He has spoken about this, calling Young a makeshift resolution of the problem that will be addressed once players from the Minor League jump into the Majors.
The Phillies have a number of potential regular third basemen available in their farm system. There is a possibility that if Young fails to impress, they will be called up during the next season.
"We know we've dug ourselves in a hole here. We also know that Mike [Young] is gonna do his job and not get pissy about playing time. He learned his lesson with Wash [Rangers Manager Ron Washington] on that one. He [Young] is probably a washed up t**d, but
a bounceback year is something that's at least plausible. [Freddy] Galvis and [Kevin] Frandsen?" Amaro uttered.
Ruben is sure that Young will not rise up against him in case the team reduces his playing time.
He has given clarification on this front, because Young had unfriendly relations with some of the officials of the Rangers due to being disallowed to play games permanently by them.
Young will be mindful of the challenges ahead and how to tackle them. Certainly, he will go all out to end up having a tremendous 2013 season campaign.
