Ruben Amaro Jr. thinks Ryan Howard will not be able to return in June - MLB Update
The Philadelphia Phillies’ General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. rubbishes any possibility of Ryan Howard’s coming back any time earlier than June. Howard is going through rehab games in Clearwater. He is showing amazing improvements in terms of hitting and throwing
balls.
Despite all this, the GM believes that he will take some time before he can be as good as are the requirements at Major League level.
Howard possesses a record of having scored 200 home-runs quickest in the history of baseball. His entry in the season will be a perfect scenario for the Phillies.
By the time Howard underwent surgery, it was believed that he will be back in the season by May. Unfortunately, road to faster recovery met a serious setback when Howard saw an infection residing around the place on which surgery was done. This hampered
his quest and made the comeback uncertain.
Amaro acknowledges the fact he is recovering at rapid pace. Issues he had with his left Achilles can turn up any time and if the caution is not observed, it can further jeopardise his return in the season, he explained. Only way the Phillies therefore want
to have him back is by giving him reasonable amount of time for recovery.
“Ryan has improved every day and he continues to improve,” Amaro said. “The goal is to get him as close to 100 percent as possible. But we can’t control the timing.”
One can appreciate the patience the Phillies have shown, in light of the fact that need of having Howard back in the line-up is pressing.
He has been part and parcel of the line-up during big-moments, experienced by the club over the last five years in National League East Division, in the form of winning Division Championship.
GM, despite scrapping the probability of comeback in June, appreciates big strides Howard is taking in making his way into the season.
“Hopefully it will be fairly soon,” Amaro said. “He seems to be doing better and better every day.”
Along with Chase Utley, Howard is one of the players the Phillies have missed hugely in the season. Their offence has gone through a slump because most of the hitters have struggled to strike hits.
In this connection, getting Howard and Utley back in the line-up will be an ideal scenario. This will help them rebound in the season.
