Ruben Bemelmans defeats Peter Gojowczyk in the final qualifier – Erste Open 2012 
Ranked 109th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Ruben Bemelmans, successfully rallied past the German professional, Peter Gojowczyk, in the final qualifier of the Erste Bank Open 2012. He thumbed down
his straight sets 6-2, 6-4 win on Monday. The ATP World Tour 250 tournament is taking place at the hard courts of Vienna, Austria.
Both players encountered each other at the hard courts in France F15 in the year 2009. The Belgium professional secured the win after a tough battle against his rival in the semi-finals. Gojowczyk defeated Bemelmans in the first
round of France F5 in 2008.
The 24-year-old Belgian participant held his first serve and successfully bagged the initial two games without any break. However, Gojowczyk responded back, cashing away his rival’s serve in the very next game. Despite of the tough
competition, Bemelmans held his poise and display his greater experience by serving beautifully. He smoothly progressed, staying on track and dusted away his rival’s every chance to take the front line. As the game kicked forward, the higher ranked Belgian
player reeled off all the points with ease, stamping a 6-2 lead in the opener.
In the second set, the 23-year-old German broke his challenger’s first serve and nudged forward to stamp a 2-love lead by the end of the second game. Despite of his former loss, he sustained his serve and drew the first blood.
However, the left-hander Bemelmans started to pick the momentum and levelled down the score line to 4-all in the eighth game. After that point, he did not let his challenger any chance to take over. Eventually, he cashed the last serve break, closing the set
with a 6-4 win.
The right-hander German attacked his opponent with five aces and had a reasonable initial serve precision of 61 percent. He converted 14 of 20 first and four of 13 second delivery points. He was unable to secure the lead as he
just capitalized on one of the four serve breaks and competitor attained two of three. In comparison to that, the Belgian player attained 64 percent first serve with 15 of 23 points.
