Ruben Castellanos eases into semi-final at XXII Pan Am Junior Championships – Badminton news
Guatemala’s most talented badminton player in the younger lot, Ruben Castellanos, showed a great performance and secured his berth in Boy’s Singles U17 semi-final at the XXII Pan Am Junior Championships Individual Event 2013 on Friday, July 26, in Mexico.
The in-form Castellanos, who is the top seeded player in Boy’s Singles main draw, showed his impressive craft in the quarter-final and outplayed Canada’s Ty Lindeman in a dominating fashion.
Castellanos started his campaign at the top-eight stage with wonderful confidence and he took just 30 minutes to send his Canadian challenger packing. He finished off the job in straight sets with an inspiring 21-11 and 21-15 total on the score board.
Meanwhile, the un-seeded Lindeman failed to continue his giant killing journey as he could not match up the speed and skills of his opponent. Though he gave a good fight in the second game but it was not enough to avoid a straight-set defeat from the hands of Castellanos.
Right from the starting points, both shuttlers tried to play attacking badminton but it was Castellanos who took over the control and started to dictate the affairs.
The wonderful variety of Castellanos’ shots disturbed the flow of Lindeman who could not anticipate the strokes well and remained struggling far behind on the score board until the end of starting half.
After the one-minute break, the top seed Castellanos continued putting up spectacular show without showing any mercy to Lindeman. He accurately placed his shots in almost every area of the court and remained successful in claiming the opening game with a stunning total of 21-11.
In the following set, Lindeman showed a different character as he started to take the bird early from all areas and managed to put up good resistance against the power play of his opponent.
However, Castellanos increased the pace of rallies by taking the bird early and took a reasonable lead until the end of first half.
The in-form Castellanos continued his positive and dictating play after the break. He did not lose his focus at any stage and wrapped up the set in a convincing manner with a margin of 21-15.
