Tromsø official Stig Ove Sandnes claims that Norwegian midfielder Ruben Jenssen was close to signing for the Portuguese giants this winter.
Benfica’s midfield has been one of the club’s strongest points this season. Featuring the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Axel-Witsel-c7029, the side were able to romp their way in the UEFA Champions League and are also five points ahead
of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 in the Primeira Liga.
Their glittering campaign has placed the spotlight truly on Estadio da Luz and some of the players at the helm have been linked with big money moves to the cream of Europe.
The Reds’ shining light Nicolas Gaitan is believed to be on the radar of several top sides including Manchester United, while Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson has also expressed interest in luring Javi Garcia to Old Trafford.
With two of their most influential characters on the pitch close to parting ways with the club, Benfica have been scouring the market for potential replacements.
It now seems that they have set their sights on Tromsø’s Ruben Jenssen but the move did not go through as Garcia and Gaitan remained at the Stadium of Light.
According to Gutan administrator Stig Ove Sandnes, an agent representing the Portuguese club had talked to the player and gave him the option of signing for them.
"I do not know as it was close, but it is true that the agent Jenssen gave the green light to talk with Benfica.”
He also added that while earlier only meetings had taken place, the Lisbon outfit were a great side and there’s no telling what could happen in the upcoming months.
"It was more a meeting to inform myself. Yes, of course. It is a great club. Let's see what happens in the summer transfer window,” the official was quoted as saying.
As Manchester United continue their interest in Benfica’s star duo, it is highly likely that a official bid will come in during the summer. If that situation does arise, then the Primeira Liga side are bound to sign new players and is seems as if they have
already identified a potential target in Ruben Jenssen.
