Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo, Ivan Navarro through to the second round – Madrid Challenger 2011
Seventh seed Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo from Spain secured a thumping 6-1, 6-4 victory over Vincent Millot on Tuesday to book his place in the second round of 2011 Madrid Challenger here in Madrid, Spain.
Ranked 142nd in the world executed his game plan brilliantly in a match that lasted for only 1 hour and 7 minutes. Hitting his forehand and backhand shots really hard, he created all sorts of problems for his opponent
from the baseline. Dropping only a game, he pocketed the opening set in a blink of an eye. Although Millot put up a good fight in the second set, Hidalgo continued to play aggressively as he completed his victory in straight sets.
Looking for his first ever title win, Hidalgo will be hoping to maintain his current form for the entire next week. He certainly has the game and temperament to defeat even the top seeded players at the tournament. However, to
do well against quality players, he will have to bring more consistency in his game play.
Vincent, on the other hand, will have to improve certain areas of his game significantly if he wants to do well in the upcoming tournaments. The Frenchman was outplayed in almost all departments of the game.
Hitting 59 per cent first serve, Hidalgo was able to take control of the points right from the start and then he placed his wonderful forehand and backhand winners all over the court. Converting four out of eight break points in
the match, he made most of the available opportunities. Playing the big points really well, he handled the pressure really well.
In another match, Spanish tennis pro Ivan Navarro demolished Nikola Ciric of Serbia 6-0, 6-4 to make it to the next round.
Navarro broke the serve at regular intervals in the match to dent his opponent’s confidence levels. Not dropping a single game, he bagged the opening set with in first 25 minutes of play. Attacking the challenger consistently,
