Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo fumbles past Wayne Odesnik in quarterfinal

Fourth seeded Spaniard Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo ousted the fifth seeded Wayne Odesnik in three sets during the quarterfinal of the Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011.
At the clay courts of the Guayaquil Tennis Club in Guayaquil, Ecuador both the challengers took up the racquets and after one hour and fifty seven minutes, fourth seeded Spaniard bounced back from a set down to get rid of the fifth
seeded American to score a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday the 24th of November 2011,
Hidalgo opted to serve first as he had won the service toss and he bagged the opening game without much opposition. Following in his footsteps was Odesnik and he too held his respective serve to place himself beside his opposition
on the scoreboard. During the third game Hidalgo erred and endorsed a break to his adversary, who held his serve to take a mini lead on the scoreboard.
Subsequently in the following two games the players matched each other and bagged a service game each. Moreover, by the end of t he sixth game Odesnik was leading with a break and hold of serve on the scoreboard. In the seventh
game Hidalgo tried to battle off a few aces against his opponent but was unsuccessful and once again endorsed a vital break point to Odesnik, who held his serve for the last time to secure the opening round with a 6-2 victory.
After taking a beating from his lower ranked rival, Hidalgo was not going down without a fight and he made an astounding return to clog both the latter sets. Nonetheless, the second round of the match was initiated by Hidalgo and
this time he capitalized on a break in the second game to scoop away three games.
Odesnik nosedived in the second set and was only able to hold his respective game in the fourth game. As he aimed for a backhand crosscourt shot, it went long and he erred gifting the most important game of the set. Hidalgo held
his serve for the last time and clogged the second set with a breadstick victory.
Both the players had bagged a set apiece by the end of the first two sets and commencing the determining round was Odesnik. This time both the players were able to hold their respective serves in the first two games to tie the
score at one game each.
However, from there onwards Hidalgo made a dash for it as he not only clobbered his service games but also the most of his opponents. Out of the total seven games played in the set, Hidalgo had accomplished six and secured his
victory with another breadstick score.
Fourth seeded Espanola reserved a spot in the semi final where he will be facing Argentinean qualifier Guido Pella.
