Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo prevailed over Peter Torebko in the second round – Madrid Challenger 2012 CH
Second seeded Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo successfully journeyed through the second round of the Madrid Challenger 2012 on Wednesday. The local challenger summed up his straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 win against the German,
Peter Torebko, in approximately one hour and 17 minutes.
The Spanish veteran began the set exhibiting his powerful serves and confidently broke his rival in the initial game. He quickly clinched the initial three games without facing any hindrance and marked his 3-love
lead. However, Torebko struggled hard but he was unable to dominate his challenger. The local challenger confidently secured all the remaining games without any obstruction and concluded the set with a 6-1 score.
The German right-hander had a better initial serve presentation of 65 percent, bagging away 10 of 15 first but none of eight second delivery points. The 34-year-old Spanish had 56 percent initial serve accuracy,
with 12 of 14 first and five of 11 second serve points. From six break points presented, he snatched two and his rival was unable to secure any.
In the second set, the 24-year-old, Torebko, served the first set but he was unable to sustain his lead. Hidalgo broke the German rival’s serve twice i.e. in the third and the fifth game respectively. Like before,
he was unable to withstand the pressure by the Spaniard and could only manage to win only two games. Hidalgo firmly replied to generate some pace in the contest, as he progressed with a strong determination to come on top. The German could barely gain any
points and submitted the set to his Spanish senior, marking a 2-6 loss.
The world number 212, Torebko, manifested a weaker initial serve precision of 39 percent, clinching six of 11 first and nine of 17 second delivery points. The higher ranked, Hidalgo, had 79 percent first serve
accuracy, with 14 of 15 first and two of four second delivery points. From five serve breaks bestowed on him, he snatched only two.
For the next round of the ATP Challenger, Hidalgo will encounter Adrian Menendez-Maceiras. Previously, he won a match against the Serbian native, Filip Krajinovic, who retired after the very first set.
