Ruben Tejada sparks as New York Mets defeat San Diego Padres 5-4 - MLB Update
New York Mets’ short-stop, Ruben Tejada had a notable day with the bat as he hit one RBI and had a decisive walk during eighth inning to give the Mets a 5-4 win against the San Diego Padres at Citi Field, New York on August 9.
In the first three innings of the game, the pitchers threw extremely well to stop the scoring shots of the batters. Jason Bartlett hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to catcher at the top of first inning but the rest of his team-mates were grounded out
without the addition of any run. Similarly, the Mets’ batters looked immobilised at the bottom of first inning as Justin Turner and David Wright both flied out to centre-field while at left-field, Angel Pagan flied out.
At the bottom of third inning, Chris Capuano bunted and reached to first base on an infield single but Pagan struck-out looking without taking any run. During fourth inning, Padres’ batters broke their silence by smashing couple of runs while the Mets also
added two runs at the bottom of fourth inning to tie the game 2-2.
Orlando Hudson doubled to deep centre-field and Jesus Guzman posted a single run. The second run for Padres was taken by Hudson when Aaron Cunningham drove a single-run shot to left-field. Conversely, Lucas Duda scored first run for Mets when Scott Hairston
doubled off deep centre-field.
Ronny Paulino hit a sacrifice fly towards left-field and Jason Bay added a tie run for Mets. The Padres’ batters scored two runs at the top of fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Bartlett drove a double-run shot to deep right-centre while Cameron Maybin contributed
a single run. The last run for Padres was taken by Bartlett when Guzman doubled off deep right-centre.
Sixth and seventh inning remained score-less as the pitchers threw perfectly. Capuano threw six innings for Mets with an ERA of 4.51 and permitted nine hits, four runs, four earned runs and one walk. He had just three strike-outs on his 86 pitches.
In the eighth inning, Mets got a 5-4 lead by blasting three runs. Pagan hit a solo homer towards right field while Turner posted one run when Nick Evans hit a sacrifice fly off centre-field. Tejada walked and Wright contributed the leading run. As a result,
the Mets acquired a 2-0 lead in the four-game series.
