Rubens Barrichello, Adam Parr against calendar restructure instead of Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1
Williams Formula 1 driver Rubens Barrichello and team principal Adam Parr have said that the teams are not against the Bahrain Grand Prix but the rescheduling of the 2011 calendar.
In their separate interviews, both shared the same idea that the reinstatement of the Bahrain Grand Prix in October 2011 will shift the inaugural Indian Grand Prix in December which is not possible.
Adam Parr stated, “It's not about whether the Bahrain race goes ahead, it's about whether we can change the calendar at this stage of the season and that's what we've written about it.”
He added that already the teams have made some agreements with the Indian Grand Prix which will all be jeopardised. He added that Formula 1 teams have no problem going to Bahrain but it is just too late to decide things.
On the other hand, Barrichello also cleared the Formula One Teams Association stance by saying that all the teams were willing to go to Bahrain but the calendar changes were not acceptable.
“During the season, there was talk we could have it after one or two races but as the problem progressed I really thought there was no way for us to get back to Bahrain. So it was a shock when I saw that we kind of accepted as Formula One to go back there,”
commented Barrichello.
The Brazilian further added that moving to Bahrain will once again cause all sorts of logistical problems. However, he also said that whatever the response is from the International Automobile Federation, (FIA) he is willing to race in Bahrain.
Many other Formula 1 officials have also said that apart from the rising security threats in Bahrain, 20 races in a calendar year are not possible keeping in mind the availability of staff and finance.
Nevertheless, after almost four months, the World Motor Sports Council decided to give Bahrain a slot in the 2011 Formula 1 season and it will be interesting to see whether they change their decision.
