Rubens Barrichello: Need to see difference in Williams to stay for 2012 season – Formula 1 news
The 38-year-old Brazilian Formula 1 driver Rubens Barrichello has urged the Williams team to work hard if he is to stay in the team for the 2012 season.
Rubens added that the Williams team has disappointed so far but hopefully they will pull their socks up for the remaining part of the 2011 season.
Williams have failed to show any edge in the ongoing season so far and the most experienced driver in the Formula 1 circuit cannot find a reason to stay in the team if it does not improve.
Barrichello said, “Williams must improve a lot for us to reach an agreement for next year. Things are standing still. It's not worth going on this way. I need the team to start to shake up and I need to see differences.”
Barrichello has previously said that Williams need a leader and he can help to bring some important figures in the struggling team.
He said, “I can possibly recruit more people, look at other teams. I can. I am a top ten guy in the paddock who has been around the longest. I know a few people and I am calling them.”
Apart from keeping Rubens in the team, Williams need to up their performance to match their previous image. After winning nine world constructors championship titles, Williams have failed to win a race since the 2004 season.
The 2011 season has been the worst season for Williams in their history. Along with Rubens, rookie Pastor Maldonado has failed to finish amongst points in the opening four races of the season.
Williams are doing their best to win some races and hopefully, a championship in the near future as the team went through restructuring. Along with technical changes in Williams, they also intend to get a more powerful engine from Renault for the 2012 season.
Currently, Williams are powered by Cosworth, which is playing a role in the team’s misery.
Nevertheless, Williams need to step up in the 2011 season with the engines they have and the new technical staff if they want to keep the Brazilian in their camp for the next season.
