Rubens Barrichello: Understanding 2011 car key to developing better 2012 car – Formula 1
Rubens Barrichello of Williams stated that the teams need to understand the 2011 car in order to develop a better car for the 2012 Formula 1season.
The team’s performance in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far has been really frustrating, probably the worst ever it has produced since their debut season in the sport.
According to Barrichello, the FW33 car that the team had during the ongoing season had serious technical issues that should have been taken care of when the car’s design was under construction.
The major fault lied with the way the technical team had interpreted 2010 year’s data. Hence, the Grove-based outfit needs to sit down and work on the information, which they have collected in the season’s races so far, so that they can deliver a better car for the next season.
Barrichello said, “There are ways of massaging and improving it - but the most important thing is not to improve this car, it is to understand what went wrong and to make the next one better. Otherwise, the next one will be born the same way. It needs addressing.”
The Brazilian driver is hopeful that with Mark Gillian assuming the role of the team’s new chief operations engineer, the 2012 car is going to be much better as compared to this season’s FW33.
There has been a major communication gap at the technical department as Gillian is an expert at his job and will be in a better position to handle the issue. He ensured that there is a smooth and efficient flow of information between the factory and racetrack.
The constructors’ title for 2011 was recently sealed by Red Bull Racing team at the Korean Grand Prix, which means the battle for this season’s championship has come to an end.
Williams lies at the ninth position with only 5 points in the 2011 championship battle at the moment.
Three races still remain before this season comes to an end. For the current top three teams, which included Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari the fight is still on.
On the other hand, Williams is focused primarily on its development plan for the construction of a much faster, better equipped and technically advanced car for the 2012 Formula 1 season.
The next race, which is the inaugural Indian Grand Prix, is set to take place at the Buddh International Circuit on October 30.
