Rubens Barrichello: Williams must improve in order to reach an agreement for next year – Formula 1
Williams’ driver Rubens Barrichello has recently stated that he is not going to stay with the team for another year unless they improve their performance dramatically in the ongoing 2011 season.
The team went through its worst start to Formula 1 season this year since it failed to score a single point in the first four races of the season. Other than that, Williams’ technical director Sam Michael and chief aerodynamicist Jon Tomlinson are going
to leave the team by the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season which is a huge blow to the team’s reputation.
As a result, Barrichello has stated that the team is not progressing and if things stay this way, then he would not sign with them for another year.
“Williams must improve a lot for us to reach an agreement for next year. Things are standing still. It's not worth going on this way... I'm at the top of my game and I'm quite happy with that. Having said that, I need the team to start to shake up and I
need to see differences,” he told the media.
However, it has been revealed that Mike Coughlan is going to join the team as its chief engineer in June 2011. The team has been going through a lot of problems and the Brazilian driver believes that Williams lacks leadership.
“We need a leader. Right now, it is almost like we have too many but not enough. A lot of people are trying to say something but in the end that is not the point. They need to focus on what they are doing,” said Barrichello.
Besides that, he added that he is going to try to use some of his contacts in the sport in an attempt to bring further personnel to the team. Rubens believes that he can recruit more people in the team possibly as he is one of the top 10 guys in the paddock
who have been in Formula 1 longer than any other driver in history.
