Rubens Barrichello considers Alonso and Vettel ultimate rivals in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, Rubens Barrichello has said that the ultimate fight for the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship title will be between two drivers, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Barrichello said that Alonso has been in a tremendous form right from the beginning of the current season and has performed amazingly well even with his car which is not competent enough.
Moreover, he said that although the Spaniard is leading the drivers’ championship with 164 points and has a strong lead over Vettel who is standing at third position behind his teammate, Mark Webber. However, he asserted that the veteran German driver will
give a tough fight to the driver at the top and expects that the ultimate battle will be between these two contenders.
"Alonso is in the form of his life," the former Formula One driver told Auto Motor und Sport. "He's not in the fastest car but he makes the most of it and now his pursuers are taking points off each other. In the end it will result in a duel between Alonso
and Vettel."
It is to be noted that even though Alonso is presently leading the championship with a good margin, however, the Scarlet team really need to keep on making the essential progress so as to maintain their lead in the standings.
Meanwhile, though the defending champions are leading the constructors’ championship and have a strong lead over other contenders, nonetheless, they also need to improve their pace for the forthcoming races as the competition is very tight in this year’s
championship.
In addition, it will be important to mention that ex-F1 driver, Niki Lauda has said that the defending champion needs to push really harder so as to close the gap to the front.
Moreover, the three-time world champion said that Vettel can take learning from the two-time world champion who is currently leading the drivers’ standings and has remarkably limited the probable damage for his team which expected to suffer in the first
few races of the season.
