Rubens Barrichello hoping for good results after upgrades for British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Williams driver Rubens Barrichello has said that he is hoping for some good results after the new upgrades to the FW33 at the 2011 Formula 1 British Grand Prix.
The team went through its worst start to a Formula 1 season this year as they were unable to secure a single point up until the 5th race of the season and still the team is currently in 9th place in the constructors’ standings with
just 4 points.
After applying some upgrades though, it now seems that they are improving but still these are not the results Barrichello or even the new driver in the team Pastor Maldonado were hoping for this season. It was expected that Williams would be one of the best
mid-running teams this season.
“As a team, we have a tough job ahead of us this weekend,” he admitted. “At the last race we didn't run the revised exhaust, but post race I think it would have been stronger, so we'll be testing that at Silverstone.”
The team came up with a new exhaust system during the practice sessions of the European Grand Prix but due to some inconsistent results, the team decided not to run the system in the race. As a result, the Brazilian driver stated that the car would have
been quicker if the team used the system and took the risk.
“Silverstone is a high speed, fast corner track where aero is dominant. We have a new front wing and some diffuser modifications to test for this race. Significantly, blowing the diffuser during braking is no longer allowed, so we'll be working with the
new software through Friday's practice sessions to re-tune our set-up,” he said.
Nevertheless, he added that the team will be running its Blown Diffuser at the British Grand Prix as it is still going to be a very useful device for the team while exiting the corners.
The team is going to have to increase its rate of “introducing updates” in order to cope up with the rest of the teams in the near future which is the main reason why Barrichello is concerned about the team’s performance this weekend.
