Rubens Barrichello is sad to see Felipe Massa in his shoes
Well, it is famous that history repeats itself but still at times it is just too shocking and surprising to have seen it repeat so dramatically once again. A similar shock was experienced by many of the Formula One fans and officials last weekend at Hockenheim.
As the Williams driver Rubens Barrichello talked to the Formula One official website following the race he confessed that he could not have helped himself from dropping his jaw and having his eyes opened far wider with surprise and disbelief for what he saw last Sunday.
At the German Grand Prix last Sunday Ferrari was accused of team ordering “once again”. At the 49th lap of the race the team driver, Felipe Massa slowed down after having received a message on the radio which told that his teammate, Fernando Alonso had was faster than him. Following the message he slowed down and let his teammate pass on who finished the race at first place on the podium.
Now as Barrichello sees the entire incident, he comments that he rubbed his eyes twice before he could actually believe that what he saw had actually happened. The man had been another victim for Ferrari’s team ordering. During the early years of this decade, the Brazilian driver drove with Ferrari, alongside Michael Schumacher, and then it was him who sacrificed his career for the sake of Schumacher and the team as they followed ordering.
Being much criticised in 2002 for their act, the Italian team vowed that they have done noting as such and will be doing it in the future as well. Moreover, to avoid having such an incident repeated again FIA added new rules of team ordering in their regulations thus forbidding any team from making any policies in the team that could affect the race results and if a team is caught for any such action it will be liable of penalty and punishment. However, none of the other teams have been accused since then and now it is the same team once again.
He expressed that what happened at Hockenheim really rung bells with him as he saw Massa walking in his shoes now. He told that it was really surprising as the big bosses that were in the team during his times were no more with Ferrari now so he believed that such a thing was not possible again however, all of a sudden he was witnessing it all repeat once more.
He told the first thing he could feel was anger sweeping down his body just as everyone else felt. He added that it was disgusting to have seen this as it brought all the memories of his experience back again.
He further elaborated that he is still not able to understand what makes the team do such a thing as for any team both the drivers are important especially in a situation in which Ferrari is now.
The Brazilian further exclaimed that he was happy to be where he is now, though he is not at the front of the grid but still having gone to a team where he feels more respected and an important part of the team is a far better feeling. He told that from his prior experiences he had learned that above all it is important to be happy in your team as at the end of the day the team is responsible for making or shaking your career.
Barrichello is soon approaching for his 300th Grand Prix and he is quite confident of plenty more to come.
