Rubens Barrichello reveals stark differences between Formula 1 and IndyCar – Formula 1 news
Rubens Barrichello has admitted that driving an IndyCar has been a rude awakening for him after driving in Formula 1 for almost two decades.
The veteran driver of Formula 1 was forced to move to IndyCar for the 2012 season, as he was unable to find a race seat in Formula 1. Barrichello waited and tried to find a race seat in Formula 1 desperately but unfortunately, he did not find favour with
any team for the current season.
Unwillingly Barrichello decided to move to IndyCar the American equivalent of Formula 1. He has now revealed a lot of things that according to him have been “rude awakening” for the Brazilian driver.
He said that the tracks are not as smooth as they are in Formula 1, he said that if Formula 1 drivers are told to race on these tracks they would decline. He added that his smooth precise driving did not work here as well as it did in Formula 1 because the
weight of the car is much heavier than in Formula 1 and he has to be more aggressive against his nature.
He also revealed that there is much more electronic gadgetry in Formula 1 than in IndyCar. Barrichello has said that he has had to completely change his driving style.
“I am driving a car that is 200 kilograms heavier, so my precise and smooth style that I had over 19 years in Formula One is not needed here,” said the 40-year-old. “I have to be aggressive, against my instinct.”
“As the former president of the GPDA, I have to say that we would not allow these circuits in F1. No Formula One drivers would go there,” said Barrichello. “They are very bumpy, there is no run-off. You have to get used to it after being spoiled in Formula
One. If we would take the IndyCar to the European tracks, I would look better.”
Barrichello will be gunning for a return to Formula 1 for the 2013 season. He has already shown his intent and has said that he can still give a lot to the sport.
