Rubens Barrichello says Lewis Hamilton will learn with time just like Ayrton Senna – Formula 1 news
Williams’ Formula 1 driver and Chairman of the Grand Prix Drivers Association, Rubens Barrichello has said that Lewis Hamilton will learn with time and it will not be wise to penalise him right now.
The 39-year-old Brazilian added that Hamilton is a great driver and he will learn from his mistakes just like the three-time Formula 1 champion Ayrton Senna did.
The Brit was involved in some incidents in the Monaco Grand Prix which saw him penalised twice in the race and one extra visit to the stewards after the race for his controversial comments.
Barrichello thinks that Hamilton is a great driver and drives extraordinarily on the racetrack which is why he gets attention.
“The most important thing is that he's phenomenal, he's quick, he's a showman because he does some good overtaking, and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't,” said Barrichello.
The Brazilian further added that the great driver Senna was also like this in his early days but soon learnt to keep his car safe from others.
“In the past, Ayrton Senna was criticised for having been very dangerous on the track and you could see he calmed down as the years progressed and the same thing will happen to Lewis. I don't think, right now, you can get the most experienced driver to grab
him and say 'Lewis you shouldn't have done this' because it won't work,” commented the Brazilian.
The Brit ruined Felipe Massa’s run in the middle part of the race when he tried to overtake the Brazilian driver on a tight corner.
Then in the final stages of the race, Hamilton collided with Williams’ Pastor Maldonado and ruined what would have been the rookie’s career best performance.
Barrichello believes that if someone tries to teach Hamilton he will not listen to that because he is on the peak of his driving career.
The next race of the 2011 Formula 1 season will be contested in Montreal and it will be interesting to see how Hamilton performs there.
