Rubens Barrichello says Williams have the tools to be in top six – Formula 1
Formula 1 Veteran, Rubens Barrichello, is upbeat about Williams’ team success in the 2011 season as he said that the team has all the tools needed and will try to finish in the top six.
The Brazilian added that last year’s performance was good enough to count Williams’ team as a competitor but the start to the 2011 season was not good.
Williams’ team had an awful start to the 2011 season as the car, FW33, was not up to the mark. Rubens’ said, “The team has all of the tools that it needs. This is an important year for them. This car needs to be in the top six by the end of the year and
it can be, with work.” He further added that the McLaren team have done remarkably well in the 2011 season so far, after having a bad pre-season testing session.
Rubens added that Williams’ team can also make a strong come-back in the European part of the season which starts in Turkey.
Talking about the team’s potential to turn things around, the Brazilian said, “When I came in last year and they developed, the car became quite good. But the target this year was to start off where we finished last year and then to go further. It remains
to be seen what we can do. There is something that we are not understanding.”
In the first three races of the 2011 season, Williams’ team has failed to show any resilience against the midfield teams like Force India, Sauber and Toro Rosso. Williams’ duo, Rubens and Pastor Maldonado, have failed to score any points, although Rubens
has shown some competitiveness against some of his old rivals. It seems that he car is falling short of the driver and teams ambitions.
Williams’ CEO, Adam Parr, has also shown some concerns over the car and has said that the development process is still in progress and will provide an edge over the midfield teams once things start clicking.
Nevertheless, the season continues in Turkey and some upgrades will be seen in the Williams’ FW33 which might provide them with a much needed boost.
