Rubens Barrichello says Williams needs leadership in development team – Formula 1 News
Brazilian veteran, Rubens Barrichello, has urged the need of a leader in the Williams team.
Ruben said that Sam Michael will do his best in the team as a technical director until the 2011 season, but still some leadership is missing in the development team.
Williams’ team went through a re-structuring phase, which saw Sam Michael lose his seat and Mike Coughlan taking his place. Although Sam will complete his contract with the team, Rubens thinks that leadership is missing in the team.
He said, “We are missing something still. We need to address the problems. It is good to have some of the top guys here to see, because Sam will give 100% up until the end, but we need a leader. Right now, it is almost like we have too many but not enough.”
Rubens also said that the team has a huge number of employees but it is still not giving an optimised performance.
Williams’ team is into their worst Formula 1 season ever. After winning nine constructors championship titles in the past, the team is heading towards a disastrous 2011 season. Their drivers, Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado, have failed to score
any points in the opening four races of the season.
Williams team have failed to win a race since 2004 and their performance graph has consistently declined. After a bad start to the season, Williams team did some re-structuring to their technical department and signed Mike, who will take on the role from
next month.
Rubens stated that he has been in the Formula 1 for a long time and his experience will be of great help to the team.
He, said, “I can possibly recruit more people, look at other teams. I can. I am a top ten guy in the paddock who has been around the longest. I know a few people and I am calling them.”
The next race will be contested on 22 May, at the Circuit de Catalunya, Spain.
