Rubens Barrichello says he has enjoyed his first test in an IndyCar – Formula 1 news
Rubens Barrichello says that he has enjoyed his first appearance at an IndyCar test with KV Racing.
The Brazilian said that although the experience has been good but he still has not made a final decision over his commitment to the US series for the 2012 season.
“I had a very very nice day with KV Racing Technology,” Barrichello said. “In the morning I was getting used to the car and not doing anything silly because obviously you don't want to put it in the wall. It's a different machine from what I'm used to, but
it had a good feeling.”
Barrichello has publicly shown his desperation to race for Formula 1 in the 2012 season. It had been imminent that the veteran’s career might be in serious jeopardy if not over by the end of 2011. The ending season had not been one of his best but it was
not his worst either.
The situation though was such that Williams were not performing on the whole and lack of a competitive car meant that the team was left wanting for a change in strategy.
Williams were left to ponder over the driver to partner Pastor Maldonado. Barrichello and Bruno Senna were being considered. The team picked Senna as he was bringing in a lot more money through sponsorships.
Barrichello was disappointed at the decision but said he had nothing against Senna who had called him up after the announcement. That is when Barrichello decided to take up IndyCar for the 2012 season.
“So, I've had a very good and productive day behind the wheel and with all the setup options that I have tried, I think it went well. You could call me a rookie, even though I've had 33 years doing this job, but today I was an IndyCar rookie,” he said.
Tony Kanaan a friend and current team driver to KV Racing introduced Barrichello to IndyCar and said that he had a good first outing, it is amazing that after 20 laps Barrichello was running the same lap times as him. He said the knowledge and experience
that Barrichello has will be very helpful.
