Rubens Barrichello says he is close to making a decision over his IndyCar stint – Formula 1 news
Rubens Barrichello said that he will be deciding upon his future at IndyCar soon.
Barrichello at 39, has unwillingly decided to shift his career into IndyCar and recently did a test drive for KV Racing. The test has been deemed a positive one and the Brazilian said that he enjoyed the IndyCar experience.
However, Barrichello has also been vocal about his desperation to return for another Formula 1 season. The Brazilian realised prior to the final race of the 2011 season that his race seat might be in jeopardy and he started working towards winning a race
seat with any team that he could sign up for.
After much speculations and waiting Williams finally picked Bruno Senna as their second driver and Barrichello was confirmed to be virtually out of the 2012 season. The veteran of 19 seasons finally decided to take up IndyCar for the 2012 season. Even after
the IndyCar test, he mentioned that he still had hopes of a Formula 1 race seat.
“I don't know how things are going to move forward now,” Barrichello told O Estado de S.Paulo. “I have not spoken with Jimmy Vasser about racing in the season.”
“What is certain is that it (the speculation) will not last long. Whether I race or not will be known soon. There is a lot of work still to do and KV (Racing) needs to know its driver,” he said.
Barrichello had promised his wife Silvana that he would not race on the US ovals which are considered to be dangerous when compared to the safety strict Formula 1 policies.
“She has come here (to Sebring) now and today she was supporting me, seeing how happy I am. Silvana even joked with Tony, saying that he was to blame for all of my enthusiasm,” he added.
It is a sad situation watching a veteran of 19 seasons left without a race seat because he is not able to generate enough sponsorship to secure a race seat.
If Barrichello finally decides to take up IndyCar it is possible that he may not feature in the races being held at the ovals as there are only four oval tracks included in the 2012 season.
