Rubens Barrichello says he is more capable of a Williams seat than any other driver – Formula 1 news
Rubens Barrichello is adamant that he is more capable and skilful at his position at Williams than any other driver, amid strong rumours that he might be replaced in the 2012 Formula 1 season.
He said, “I don't believe that anybody else, including Kimi, can offer anything more than I do. They already know what I can offer. Young drivers can have more money, but they can also have bad things happen on the first lap and all of that money goes away
with crashes.”
Raikkonen sparked speculation that Williams might be on the lookout for a replacement for Barrichello when he visited the Williams factory recently. Barrichello though came out pre-empting the rumours.
“They know how much I have put into this team and how much I want to get into next year. We just need to wait and see what they have to say at some point, which I hope is soon,” he further added.
Barrichello has had a torrid ongoing 2011 season. He had to retire in Australia with a transmission problem, and then in Malaysia his car’s hydraulics failed. He finished outside the points in the next three races.
The Brazilian is the most experienced drivers in the history of Formula 1, becoming the first driver to start 300 grands prix. He is also the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association chairman.
Raikkonen, a former world champion, has been amongst the rumours to make a comeback for a sometime now.
He is reportedly planning his return with Renault, Red Bull, Toyota, Mercedes GP, and a test role with Pirelli. He left Formula 1 to join NASCAR in late 2009.
Although he has been in several talks to make a comeback, he has not really done so citing various reasons. New rumours brewed with Williams after Raikkonen made a visit to their factory, but Barrichello has quickly brushed them aside as nothing.
