Rubens Barrichello stays positive over his possible Williams axing for 2012 – Formula 1 news
Rubens Barrichello says that he is very optimistic about his future in Formula 1.
Barrichello’s current team Williams is still undecided on its driver line-up for 2012, which leaves the veteran in an ambiguous frame of mind. The season has not been an impressive one from him, which further hampers his case. He has only managed five points
in total so far this season.
Shareholder of Williams Toto Wolff confirmed that his future is uncertain with growing interest of the team in making way for Kimi Raikkonen to make a comeback to Formula 1 and Jules Bianchi is another option.
Barrichello was with Honda when it withdrew from the sport in 2008. Remembering that time, he mentioned that he stayed positive then and he will stay positive now.
He said, “I'm just waiting for people to call.”
“The only thing I have in mind is the year that I'm going to have ahead. I'm thinking like I did in 2008, just positive. I might go to the Brazilian GP without any confirmation or without anything, but I'm not saying goodbye to my fans. I want to be there
next year. I just have to wait and see. The team have myself very motivated and just waiting for an answer. If God wishes, I will be on the grid for my 20th year,” he added.
He also mentioned that he was in contact with a lot of teams, and has been told that his vast experience in the sport means that he should not worry about his future at this point.
Williams have been quite open about their talks with Raikkonen to lure him back into Formula 1. The 2007 champions has also confirmed the reports to be true and that he is still thinking about a comeback but not fully decided on it.
It will be interesting to see how Barrichello takes this piece of information and how it impacts his performances in the last two races of the season, with the first one starting on Sunday, November 13, 2011 in Abu Dhabi at the beautiful Yas Marina Circuit.
