Rubens Barrichello thinks Williams could have achieved more with him – Formula 1 news
Former F1 driver, Rubens Barrichello has said that he still wants to come back in the sport and thinks that Williams could have achieved more if he had stayed in the team.
“I think there is still a way back,” he said in an interview with Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport.
Moreover, when he was asked that whether he still watches F1, he answered positively and asserted that he looks at every single detail right from the free Friday practice towards the end. In addition, he said that his wife sometimes says that he is crazy
for the game.
“Every single detail. From Friday onwards, every practice session. I study each sector time. At five o’clock in the morning I am getting from my friends the latest information about the tyres and the setups. My wife thinks I’m completely crazy,” he laughed.
Furthermore, he said that losing his seat in Williams to Bruno Senna who is the nephew of great Ayrton Senna was completely unexpected.
Additionally, he said that all the team members expected me to stay in the team for the 2012 season. He also said that there were speculations that the British team was out of money while he said that he might have provided them with money from his sponsor.
“The engineers and mechanics all assumed that I would be driving (in 2012),” the Brazilian driver said. “Of course there were rumours that Williams needed money, but I had put together some money from my sponsor BMC.”
It is to be noted that although he was bit upset over losing his race seat to Senna, however, he said that he is pleased to see his compatriot behind the wheel of an F1 car.
Over and above, he said that if he had stayed in the Grove based team, he would have acted as a teacher for Senna, Valtteri Bottas and Pastor Maldonado and eventually they could have done better.
Lastly, he said that Maldonado has a got the potential and insisted that the Venezuelan driver must take control over his emotions so as to secure more points in the season ahead.
